Job Description:

The Building and Systems Engineering (BaSE) PLC Supervisor manages support and upgrades of plant floor technologies. The BaSE PLC Supervisor manages all project and process-engineering activities including detecting issues and working with other UPS groups to identify, recommend and implement cost-effective solutions that improve productivity. He/She provides forth level phone & field support for any equipment failure that arises at automated facilities. The BaSE PLC Supervisor provides system training and support during a facility’s initial start of operation. This position maintains complete and accurate site details (e.g., system compliance test results, system configurations, version control, training, etc.) in accordance with departmental guidelines and standards. The BaSE PLC Supervisor must be able to work a flexible travel schedule and hours. The BaSE PLC Supervisor works cross functionally to integrate a wide variety of system components. He/She works on site with vendors, consultants, electrical and mechanical contractors and local cross-functional staff to successfully meet the project objectives with regards to system functionality, system performance, and system reliability. The BaSE PLC Supervisor provides onsite system technical support training for local engineers, technicians and operators. He/She facilitates calls from sites to resolve both immediate needs and chronic system issues.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Dispatches and oversees the work of outside service vendors through physical inspections to ensure quality of work

  • Orders equipment and parts from vendors, oversees payment processes, and maintains equipment inventory to maintain project schedules

  • Works cross functionally to integrate a wide variety of system components

  • Reviews training materials to ensure accuracy and completeness

  • Conducts on-the-job and formal training to instruct the end user on proper usage of solutions

  • Researches all available information and gathers data to analyze system issues and provide solutions

  • Documents and keeps management teams informed of all support related issues

  • Provides solid documentation for system issues and resolutions to prevent reoccurrences

  • Must be open to some travel

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of industrial controls relating to programmable logic controllers and human machine interfaces

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of database design principles; identifies users’ requirements and needs with guidance from others

  • Identifies the business problem that requires research; identifies sources of information that are relevant to a problem; reviews literature and data related to the research question; summarizes information from data sources

  • Demonstrates understanding of implementation objectives, project plan, and one's role within a project; participates in the implementation of a project; provides timely, thorough, and concise updates for area of responsibility; identifies areas of risk and properly communicates them to the project manager

  • Communicates quality assurance methodology and explains desired outcomes of testing; identifies the steps in the project life cycle

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Engineering or Computer Science - Preferred

  • Experience with Systems Integration of Material Handling Systems (CCD cameras, laser scanners, programmable logic controllers, embedded control devices, and other peripherals) - Preferred

  • Experience with Automation Technologies - Preferred
