Job Summary:

We are looking for an Electrical System Design Engineer who is ready to put all their electrical system design prowess to work! You will report to an Engineering Manager that has a complete vision for the role. The vision includes helping you obtain deep knowledge and hands on experience with generator sets and how they interface with electrical power systems.

You will have the opportunity to lead and participate in the design, development, and troubleshooting of electrical control system packaging, associated circuitry, and wire harnessing for our gas and diesel-powered generator sets. You will get to work with generator set controllers, voltage regulators, I/O and temperature monitoring modules, shore power circuitry, engine interconnect wiring, voltage sensing wiring, and electrical enclosures. Imagine being mentored by more senior engineers and other functional group engineers that have a vested interest in your understanding and achievements towards becoming an expert in generator control system components! JOB PURPOSE:

  • Perform electrical engineering assignments related to generator set controls packaging, while building a strong working knowledge of Caterpillar products, technologies, processes, services, and systems.

  • Become a subject matter expert in 50Hz and 60Hz grid code regulations, as they relate to diesel and gas-powered generator sets

JOB DUTIES:

As an Electrical System Design Engineer in the Large Power System Division Controls Packaging group, you will have an opportunity to direct and participate in the design and development of controls systems for gas and diesel-powered generator sets.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complete practical electrical product designs using complex technical principles

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to define and meet product requirements

  • Prepare concept designs, and complete feasibility studies for complex engineering projects

  • Develop and maintain detailed project and validation plans

  • Coordinate product validation testing and post-test analysis

  • Provide guidance to other engineers as required to ensure development schedules are met

  • Evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems

  • Use technical expertise and product knowledge to resolve issues by interfacing with engineers, service representatives, plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants

  • Work with manufacturability teams to resolving problems with manufacturing

  • Collaborate on design and validation with global suppliers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A University Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or related discipline

  • Experience in NPI (New Product Introduction), CPI (Current Product Improvement) or Cost Reduction design and development

  • Experience of electrical design and ability to interpret engineering drawings and international standards - sound technical background and a good knowledge of current engineering drawing practice.

  • Strong leadership ability and good communications skills

TOP CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, or equivalent experience

  • High level of proficiency in 3D modeling using Creo Parametric.

  • Power system analysis using simulation tools MATlab, DigSILENT experience preferred.

  • Experience working with engine or generator set control panels

  • Experience working with power generation and/or power distribution systems

  • Controls system design experience and knowledge of grid code compliance regulations

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience working in a fast paced globally located teams

Relocation is available for this position.
