For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ Work Schedule_ Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Opportunity for Overtime and call out _ Primary Role_ To perform work under a team concept in the distribution system including new construction, customer service, meter installations and meter reading as assigned by supervisor. To make decisions within the guidelines established by supervisor necessary to carry out and complete work assignments. Performs a variety of tasks in supervising and participating in the locating, laying, repairing, and extending underground water mains, service lines and distribution pipes. _ Key Accountabilities_ Locates, accesses, and operates company facilities such as, but not limited to, curb stops, gate valves, shutoff valves, and plumbing fixtures. Investigates and diagnoses hydraulic variations that may adversely impact customer service, and initiates corrective action. Changes, installs, and removes meters. Responds to and conducts inspections for high bill complaints. Performs shut offs for non-pay and co-term. Performs turn offs and turn ons. Accurately measures pressure and flow at meter to detect leaks. Restores service to frozen company facilities. Records pertinent data and maintains accurate records. Responds to inquiries accurately and professionally and, when necessary, involves the appropriate individuals to resolve customer and company-related issues and to achieve the highest level of customer service in all areas of responsibility. Removes debris/water from company facilities including, but not limited to, meter pits/vaults, curb and valve boxes. Reports situations & conditions in the field that may adversely impact customer service, the public safety, as well as situations that may result in potential damage to company facilities. Obtains and records water meter readings in company's service area to ensure accurate billing of customers' accounts within established time frames. Conducts water loss audits including, but not limited to, pipe and fixture inspections and usage patterns at customers' accounts. Breaks up asphalt and concrete, using pneumatic power tools for trenching and compaction. Manually digs valve boxes and curb boxes, using shovel and digging bar. Installs repair clamps on pressurized water mains and service lines. Operates valves and fire hydrants. Investigates complaints and determines corrective action per company procedure. Drives vehicles and/or trucks. Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor. May also be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training. _ Knowledge/Skills_ Must possess geographical knowledge of the company's service area. Working knowledge of company policies, procedures, and safety practices, as well as federal regulations regarding confined spaces applicable to area of assigned responsibility. Mechanical ability sufficient to understand the operation of pumps,valves, motors and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance. Working knowledge of distribution/collection systems. _ Experience/Education_ High school graduate or state recognized Educational Equivalency Certificate _ Other_ * Pass D.O.T. physical examination. * DEP Water/Wastewater license is preferred, or ability to obtain within 2 years. _ Work Environment_ Work is indoors and outdoors. Required to work in all adverse weather conditions; e.g., rain, snow,sleet, heat. Daily local travel. Work in environmental conditions including contact with wastewater,chemicals, fumes, odors and dust as a result of working with handling potentially hazardous wastewater treatment and laboratory chemicals. Exposure to potentially harmful pathogens and gases in raw unprocessed wastewater creating potential for blood borne/airborne disease.
