The R&D Head of Instruments & Accessories will be an innovative, highly technology fluent R&D leader responsible for leading a strong cadence of new product development that serve patient and customer needs in the key areas of robotic surgery.

The R&D Head of Instruments & Accessories leads an organization of 140 engineers responsible for product development of Instruments and Accessories for the Ottava surgical robotics platform. He/She is responsible for building technical capabilities and influencing the program’s direction and financial results.

This leader will play a critical leadership position to achieve our Ottava business strategy through a robust instrument & accessories portfolio geared towards a wide variety of surgical modalities. It presents an opportunity to embark on new surgical challenges and join our mission to make surgery smarter, less invasive and more personalized.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop a strong cadence of highly complex products in a heavily regulated environment and in close collaboration with marketing, supply chain, regulatory, quality, and clinical.

  • Navigate, take risks and influence in a highly matrixed environment.

  • Partner with Global Marketing to lead the new product development strategy and portfolio innovation agenda, portfolio strategy decisions, market segmentation, product/procedure development, clinical and regulatory considerations.

  • Successfully lead teams through product development cycle, ensuring projects are executed properly and achieve market success.

  • Adapt resources to project priorities.

  • Create and lead a world-class team, a culture of inclusion and innovation, develop a diverse pipeline of successful leaders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or similar Engineering field. Advanced degree preferred.

  • 10 years of experience developing and delivering highly complex products in heavily regulated environments.

  • 5 years of technical leadership of multi-disciplinary R&D and cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated maturity and senior leadership experience within a matrix organization.

  • Experience leading a large technical product organization with over 100 people.

  • Track record of successfully bringing products from concept to market on schedule and within budget.

  • Hands-on involvement with solid judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven track record of success in managing and developing others; ability to acquire and develop a diverse talent pipeline for the future.

  • Strong people management and organizational development skills; agility in leading through change and conflict resolution.

  • Prior MedTech and/or Robotics experiences preferred.

  • The ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

The anticipated base pay for this role is $238,000 to $322,000.
