Arconic has an exciting opportunity for an Aerospace Product Engineer to work within our Global Rolled Products division in Davenport, IA.
GRP is a dynamic global organization that offers the widest variety of aluminum plate and sheet in the world. GRP is made up of Arconic's rolling operations around the world and is Arconic's most global group with manufacturing and commercial sites in North America, Europe, South America, Asia. This position is within GRP's North American Aerospace & Automotive Products Business Unit (AAP). AAP produces flat rolled aluminum sheet and plate products that are used in the construction of commercial airplanes and automotive markets. Some customers include Aerospace companies like Boeing and Airbus, as well as Automotive manufacturers like Ford, GM, and Chrysler.
The position will report to the Aerospace and Defense Product Manager. They will collaborate with process owners to drive process and product improvements, develop new products within the Aerospace market, assist with pre-sales and the costing systems, and provide training in these areas for the sales, marketing and manufacturing groups. This activity is predicated on a thorough understanding of Aerospace products and manufacturing process capabilities.
Assists Aerospace Product Manager with planning & execution of New Product Development strategy.
Provides project support for new product development programs with plants, ATC and Application Engineering
Supports a product technology plan
Maintains table of alloy and process patents and their expiration dates
Oversees and prioritizes customer requests for test and evaluation material
Identifies and explores global process equipment and technology alternatives
Teams with process owners to develop implementation plans for process & product improvements
Identifies and explores value added opportunities for existing products
Understands manufacturing capabilities of business unit's manufacturing facilities.
Assists with determining pre-sales costs for new and existing products Market Knowledge
Understands (a) the supply and value chains to end customer (b) the competitive situation, including existing suppliers and emerging technologies (c) how value added technologies can be applied to customer needs and direction
Assists with market/product strategy development as requested
Educates commercial (and manufacturing) groups re: product characteristics, “differentiators”/barriers, manufacturing capabilities, direction
Minimum Years of Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading to technical knowledge of aluminum rolled product manufacturing processes from casting through fabrication
Knowledge specific of Aerospace products and manufacturing processes in a rolling mill.
5 years of product engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
Technical knowledge of testing methods for aluminum product characteristics and ability to interpret this data.

Minimum of 3 years engineering experience
