3M is seeking a Global Laboratory Manager for the Separation & Purification Sciences Division (SPSD) located in Eagan, MN. Here, we go.

Job Summary:

3M Separation & Purification Sciences Division (SPSD) is announcing an exciting opportunity for a Global Laboratory Manager who will be responsible for leading the Global Water Purification Laboratory. The SPSD Water business provides residential and commercial purification solutions for drinking water in homes, food service/restaurants, and key account applications. Drinking water purification continues to be a strong megatrend in both developed and developing countries. 3M SPSD provides material science expertise and mechanical hard good engineering expertise to meet our customer needs in this highly attractive marketspace.

The Global Laboratory Manager position will be responsible for developing and implementing the global technical strategy to grow the SPSD Water business. This position will be focused on close collaboration with the cross functional business team to develop strategy, commercialize innovative purification solutions, and establish a strong pipeline of new products. The successful candidate will work with our key customers to identify new high growth opportunities, build new opportunity proposals for the next generation technology/product platforms and execute a series of critically important new product and technology programs. This leadership position will have direct supervisory responsibility for US based laboratory personnel in addition to coordinating global laboratory efforts.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Champion high impact, cross functional New Product Development (NPI) teams to build a healthy pipeline of new 3M products for use in the water purification market space.

  • Prioritize key programs and drive NPI team milestone attainment and commercialization execution.

  • Develop technology strategic plan that includes a compelling portfolio of differentiated products and disruptive solutions.

  • Collaborate with our key customers in understanding their market trends and translating their voices into SPSD NPI opportunities.

  • Contribute to aligning global laboratory efforts, implement one global laboratory model.

  • Build technology/product roadmaps and associated intellectual property strategies.

  • Build collaboration relationships with Corporate Research Laboratories (CRL) to leverage new technologies into SPSD NPI projects.

  • Lead a laboratory team of product developers, product engineers, project leaders and customer facing specialists.

  • Hiring, managing, and deploying a high performance laboratory team against priority programs.

  • Energize the organization by creating a culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, risk taking.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of five (5) years combined work experience in Research & Development and/or Product Commercialization

  • Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline from an accredited institution

  • Experience in collaborating with global laboratory teams, especially as it relates to actively managing a global product pipeline

  • Demonstrated history of significant contributions to an organization through growth initiatives including commercialization of disruptive innovation programs

  • Knowledge and understanding of polymer materials, filtration media and corresponding mechanical design

  • Proven track record of successful technology/product commercialization

  • Strong communication skills, proven ability to develop and maintain productive networks within the 3M technical community with demonstrated ability to influence

  • Ability to think strategically, to be able to identify & act upon market/technology trends external to 3M

  • Ability to manage and investigate new technology areas with confidence

  • Proven intellectual property acumen

  • Collaborative interpersonal style with experience in leading project teams.

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international
