Job Description

The Vice President Communications is responsible to provide strategic direction and tactical leadership to the Communications function overseeing activities that promote, enhance and protect Prime’s brand reputation and to advance Prime’s position externally and internally. This position will contribute to the organization’s strategic position through understanding the industry’s landscape relative to competitors and governmental regulations to develop, integrate and implement a broad range of public relations, employee communication and client activities. This role is an ambassador for the organization and will build relationships with the news media to strengthen Prime’s brand and showcase market differentiators.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team accountable to create and execute a public relations strategy that enhances Prime’s external perception with relevant media outlets, federal, state, and local government entities, and location communities; serve as spokesperson representing Prime with media outlets

  • Lead a team accountable to create and execute a comprehensive communication strategy with core messages that align with Prime’s vision, mission, and goals in order to effectively communicate to, engage, and educate employees and enhance culture

  • Maintain understanding of industry trends, regulations and internal initiatives to anticipate and identify emerging opportunities and issues that may affect Prime’s reputation and proactively lead the development and execution of an organized communication and/or public relations approach; connect through external, internal and client channels/experiences

  • Lead crisis communication and provide strategic leadership for communications department focused on corporate interests and inspiring employee and client engagement

  • Define process for regular ELT alignment on key messages with views on market and strategy, as well as organizational positioning.

  • Provide proactive and responsive communication and public relations counsel to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team including development of speeches, presentations, and public relations directed to a broad range of stakeholders

  • Establish department metrics and measurements to monitor the effectiveness of corporate communications, and leverage data and market research to support solutions and budget needs

  • Identify opportunities for public appearances, meetings, and conferences to showcase Prime’s business, partnerships, impact to members as well as showcase the leaders and company culture. Serve as lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact organization

  • Manage department budget, staffing, performance and development, and consistently demonstrate Prime’s leadership expectations during interactions with direct reports, cross functional teams and external stakeholders

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related area of study, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience; HS diploma or GED equivalent required

  • 15 years of experience in media relations and strategic communications in corporate, government, advocacy or agency environments

  • 10 years of leadership/people management experience

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to provide strategic counsel and constructive feedback with a strong sense of professional integrity and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential material appropriately

  • Previous experience working with government organizations

  • Demonstrated leadership, influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to lead and drive change

  • Proven experience leading and inspiring teams to meet business objectives with outstanding results; ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and facilitate teamwork in a matrix environment

  • Ability to establish rapport, build relationships, and collaborate effectively across departments and at all levels within the organization

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, and strong strategic planning and communication skills with the ability to create and adapt messaging that is in alignment with Senior/Executive Leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a spokesperson for an organization

  • PBM/health care experience

Minimum Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

  • Constantly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk and hear

  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, and crouch

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the SVP, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer

Potential pay for this position ranges from $187,200.00 - $318,600.00 based on experience and skills. Pay range may vary by 8% depending on applicant location.
