BAE Systems Director of Contracts in Kingsport, Tennessee

Job Description

The Holston Army Ammunition Plant is a major supplier of explosive materials to the U.S. Department of Defense. The facility has state-of-the-art equipment and capabilities for nitration chemistry, acid handling and recovery, and other chemical-processing operations. Additional munition-related services include modernization program management, energetics research and development, engineering design and inventory management.

BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Contracts supporting our Ordnance Systems businesses in Kingsport, TN. In this role you will support Business Area Senior Director of Contracts.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs the activities of contract professionals including highly complex contractual arrangements of strategic importance to corporate or business unit.

  • Responsible for managing contract professionals at management levels.

  • Leads, mentors, trains, and develops a diverse team.

  • Provides career development and training opportunities for contract professionals.

  • Provides guidance and leadership to cross-functional business team members.

  • Ensures appropriate contract staffing and budget levels.

  • Directs identification, development, and implementation of entire range of contract formation, negotiation, and administration policies and processes in accordance with customer expectations and corporate objectives.

  • Drives implementation of strategic contract opportunities with the most significant impact to the corporation.

  • Communicates corporate and business unit objectives to contract department.

  • Understands the business case and has an appreciation of financial/analytical issues and profit and loss implications.

  • Participates in development of business alliances, acquisitions, and divestitures, source selection procedures and process, make or buy determinations, and risk management directives.

  • Performs in a cross-functional role for other business elements, e.g. finance, law, operations.

  • Establishes highest-level contract policies and processes to ensure achievement of corporate expectations.

  • Approves and implements new and revised contract policy and process.

  • Supports change management and process improvement initiatives.

  • Occasionally may lead complex negotiations.

  • Maintain assigned workload as an element of professional responsibilities.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor Degree and 12 years of experience or equivalent experience

  • Experience in Contracts Management

  • Experience in Government/Defense Contracting

  • Experience in People Management/Leadership

  • Ability to establish and implement departmental goals and objectives

  • Ability to perform in complex cross-functional business environment

  • Ability to effect and manage change agents

  • Proven management and delegation ability

  • Global perspective of business environment and technology

  • Motivational and visionary leadership skills, including the ability to recognize and develop emerging leadership talent

  • Excellent presentation, team building, and leadership skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Graduate Degree a plus

  • Professional Certifications (i.e. Certified Federal Contract Manager (CFCM)) a plus

  • Experience in Cost Type or Firm Fixed Price Contracts a plus

  • Experience in R&D, Chemical Manufacturing, or Construction Contracts a plus

  • Experience in DCMA/DCAA Compliance a plus

  • Experience in FAR/DFARS Compliance a plus

  • Experience in Process Improvement a plus

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $128100 - $217800

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
