United States Steel Manager - Accounting in Pennsylvania

12657BRJob Description:Accounting is a core component of our business and key to our success as one of the world's largest steel producers. The Accounting organization ensures financial compliance, manages global financial results for external reporting, and provides financial statistics to U. S. Steel's executive team to aid in strategic business decisions. This position will enhance your knowledge and understanding of the accounting field and the relationship between our operations and financial performance.

JOB PURPOSE/ JOB SUMMARY:

  • Will be responsible for transactions, standards, and practices related to the steel manufacturing process and corporate headquarters functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Oversee the accounting functions related to outside processor inventories maintained for multiple North American facilities which requires monitoring, supervision, and assistance of transactional and closing tasks performed by outsourced employees.

  • Supervise corporate headquarters personnel that perform or perform certain accounting functions such as: profit sharing, cash flow, stock compensation, derivatives, debt, leases, real estate, raw materials sales, and LIFO inventory.

  • Oversee quarterly entries for environmental and legal contingencies and the annual inventory revaluation of standard costs in Oracle.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve general ledger entry challenges including intercompany out of balance conditions.

  • Review and perform account reconciliations in OneStream accounting software.

  • Prepare, review, and approve multiple SOX key internal controls.

  • Analysis of balance sheet and income statement account fluctuations.

  • Assist internal and external auditors.

  • Assist with 10-Q/K footnote preparation and other SEC filings as needed.

  • Effective interaction with other personnel from corporate headquarters, financial planning and analysis, tax division, plant accounting, plant financial planning and analysis, procurement, raw materials, and other areas of U. S. Steel.

  • Qualified candidate must be able to meet strict adherence to deadlines for financial reporting, possess strong analytical skills and resolve issues independently by understanding and being attentive to detail. Even though this position will be based out of our corporate headquarters, the candidate must be comfortable working in a plant environment.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business with a concentration in accounting or finance. Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.

  • At least six years of experience in accounting, preferably management experience at a publicly held company or with a public accounting firm. CPA preferred.

  • Excellent MS Excel and MS Word skills, experience with Oracle and OneStream preferred.

  • High attention to detail and works well in a team environment.

  • Strong communication, writing, interpersonal, organization skills and ability to interact with all levels of management.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple projects at the same time.

  • Must be a self-directed individual, eager to learn new concepts and able to drive process and control improvements.
