For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ Primary Role_ Responsible for strategic long term water and wastewater system planning, including recommending projects or approaches to address needs related to source of supply, treatment, storage, pumping, and transmission of water and wastewater. The analysis and recommended solutions will affect the performance and operational integrity of water and wastewater systems within American Water. A Planning Engineer also has technical and project management supervision over consulting Project Managers/Engineers, and/or project support engineers or technicians. This position is also responsible for conducting or reviewing water and wastewater system capacity and service evaluations associated with water and wastewater service extension projects or other potential service growth opportunities using computerized hydraulic models. Engineer will prepare or assist in the preparation of detailed asset investment plans considering the cost, timing, prioritization, operational need and risk, strategic investment fit, and other pertinent factors surrounding individual projects or investment programs. #LI-JS1 _ Key Accountabilities_ * Provide input and prepare strategic water and wastewater system planning studies (comprehensive or targeted issue based studies as appropriate) using computerized hydraulic modeling. * Assess system capacity, asset condition, facility performance, resiliency level, and operational efficiency, and recommend associated improvements. * System capacity evaluations, analysis of source, production, distribution, storage, or other system deficiencies as assigned to support ongoing operations, service extension requests, or regional growth opportunities. * Ability to serve as a competent technical resource on water and wastewater system planning matters including capital planning, safe yield analysis, demand projections, production adequacy, transmission and distribution adequacy, water conservation, regionalization, and other pertinent subjects as needed to support operational and business needs. * Pursue educational opportunities, professional development, and special assignments to enhance performance and contributions to the organization. * Support Engineering initiatives established by the Engineering Directors (i.e., asset management or other operational excellence initiatives). _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Demonstrated competency in asset planning, water and wastewater system comprehensive master planning, distribution system hydraulic modeling or equivalent water / wastewater system design experience. * Broad knowledge of Engineering (planning, design, and construction) related to water or wastewater facilities. * Working knowledge of regulatory developments, new technology and current trends in water quality, treatment, and Engineering economics. * Applicable knowledge of water resources industry, business, and environmental regulatory field. _ Experience/Education_ * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience required * Minimum 2 to 5 years experience in water resources planning / engineering. * GIS and hydraulic modeling experience a plus. _ Travel Requirements_ * Up to 20%. * A valid driver's license is required _ Work Environment_ * 80% primarily in the office with occasional work in the field at water/wastewater facilities to conduct site investigations and hold onsite project meetings. _ Competencies_ Champions safety Customer obsessed Cultivates innovation Nimble learning Drives Results Collaborates * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
