The Clorox Company Scientist II - Process Development, R&D - Foods Discovery Innovation in Pleasanton, California

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Scientist II Process Developer in the front end of Discovery Innovation, you will bring technical and innovation experience to Foods R&D. You will be an integral member of a team responsible for exploring the fuzzy front end of developing and scaling up food products across the Hidden Valley, KC Masterpiece, Soy Vay and Kingsford BBQ brands that will delight consumers and deliver topline growth for the Foods business. We are seeking an individual excited to explore new arenas for foods technologies and willing to dive in to the processing and manufacturing methods for fresh insights. The role will be Process Development front end innovation focused, with opportunities including engaging cross-functional partners for new, flexible consumer delight by leveraging manufacturing technology. You will try new things every day, create sustainable processes to assure successful scale up of products, and be responsible for pushing the envelope in the Foods space. A successful individual will embrace the full, fun and challenging process of scaling up and manufacturing our Foods products.

To achieve your goals, you will:

  • Lead the creation and execution of robust development plans for scaling up new and improved products and processes from consumer insights and bench scale, to pilot scale, and ultimately full-scale production.

  • Explore processes to drive consumer value when formulation, manufacturing process, and/or production location is in the undefined front end of innovation.

  • Provide thought leadership embracing the full product proposition to multi-disciplined project teams.

  • Collaborate with peers in a team that values open learning, technical curiosity, and supports development, sharing, and testing of new ideas.

  • Build strong working relationships with all peers and stakeholders in and out of R&D to facilitate alignment and efficient execution.

  • Show passion and challenge conventions, drive experimentation, open innovation and technical rigor, in a hands-on environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2 years process development and scale up industrial experiences

(The degree and experience levels will be evaluated holistically. Open to Sr Scientist for highly qualified candidates)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Foods Process or Manufacturing experience.

  • Food Product Development & Formulation experience.

Job may include the following:

  • Handling meat, vegetables, fish, milk, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs and other food ingredient chemicals and allergens while wearing appropriate PPE.

  • Some lab, pilot plant, and plant work may include including wearing a respirator while handling these ingredients.

  • Working in lab with various materials, including powders -- up to 50% of the time

  • Sitting in an office environment using a computer up to 50% of the time

  • Fine motor skills to prototype samples up to 25% of the time

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 to 50lbs up to 25% of the time

Education Level/Degree:

  • B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Bioengineering or Equivalent
