Starbucks is seeking a highly skilled and motivated accounting manager to help lead the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting preparation work on the Financial Reporting team (2 direct reports). The Financial Reporting team is responsible for a range of high-visibility and critically important reporting areas, including preparation for significant new ESG disclosure requirements in the US and globally, as well as other ongoing reporting including quarterly 10-Q and annual 10-K reports filed with the SEC.

This manager will have the opportunity to lead the global rollout of ESG regulatory reporting, working in partnership with the Financial Reporting ESG program manager and other key stakeholders. The manager will consult to provide clear and consistent guidance around the new regulatory requirements to ensure strong partnership and successful implementation. Additional responsibilities may include developing memo documentation for complex technical regulatory requirements and drafting new regulatory disclosures. The manager will also assist with 10-Q and 10-K reporting as needed during critical points in those processes. The Financial Reporting team is comprised of experienced and high-performing individuals, allowing an opportunity to coach, stretch, and further develop partners.

This position will have the opportunity to lead and help build a world-class global ESG reporting process. This role requires a highly skilled and ambitious professional who brings thought leadership and ability to influence across geographies, functions and levels based on strong business acumen, and sound application of accounting principles, financial reporting regulations, and internal controls. This manager will model and act in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles and values.

This accounting manager will provide expertise and lead in the following areas:

Leadership

Business requirements

• Acts as a subject matter expert in accounting practices and processes and provides customers with clear and consistent guidance and education.

• Leads and motivates the team to drive proactive collaboration with client groups to implement continuous process improvements to support the growth of the business.

• Manages and executes quarterly reporting process to ensure timely and accurate financial data in compliance with US GAAP and Starbucks accounting policies. Recommends solutions, maintains consistency and leadership when issues arise during close.

• Identifies key risks and opportunities and works cross functionally to provide solutions that drive process improvements and strengthen the control environment.

• Advises on accounting and financial impacts of new or proposed transactions and regulations, quantifies opportunities and risks, and recommends solutions.

• Provides oversight to ensure systems, processes and internal controls are consistently applied.

• Participates in cross-functional teams to implement accounting solutions for new business activities.

• Participates in implementation of systems directly utilized by Accounting, including defining system requirements, testing and training. Identifies and implements process or procedural modifications indicated by systems requirements.

Partner Development & Team Building

• Drives the engagement, development, and performance of all members of the team.

• Coaches and inspires partners to meet business objectives, challenge the status quo, and seek continuous improvement.

• Attracts, retains, and develops high-performing partners, including developing talent throughout the organization.

• Designs an effective team structure to meet the needs of a growing business.

• Provides ongoing, thoughtful development feedback to partners.

• May act as a mentor to less experienced partners outside of immediate team.

We’d love to hear from people with:

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required

• 5+ years of relevant experience:

o Leading an accounting team for a large, multi-national, public company

o Developing, interpreting, and implementing accounting policies and processes in a high growth environment, while ensuring strong internal control environment

o Applying US GAAP to complex business transactions

o Supporting talent development in a diverse work environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred

• 5+ years relevant experience, including experience at a multi-national company

• Public accounting experience preferred

• CPA preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Aptitude or experience in leading teams in a fast paced and complex environment.

• Ability to assess business processes and implement improvements and controls.

• Understanding of US GAAP and internal controls.

• Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or other ERP) preferred

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate accounting results to both accounting and non accounting customers at various levels of the organization.

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

• Ability to build relationships and influence others in order to achieve successful outcome in cross-functional projects and activities.

• Ability to multi-task and manage priorities effectively in a fast paced environment, while exhibiting exceptional attention to detail and continuously driving process improvements.

• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.

• Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools.

• Ability to work independently.

• Displays initiative and has the ability to improve processes and document work performed.
