The R&D Technical Manager will focus on developing, testing, and commercializing innovative retail equipment - this includes beverage dispensing, refrigeration, carbonation, blending and more while maintaining Starbucks product quality. This role is critical as we drive new equipment platforms for retail customers that reduce complexity for our baristas, enable new product platforms and unlock productivity. As a manager on the equipment development team, you will lead a sub-team of model makers that execute prototype concepts for the enterprise.

  • ·Manages day-to-day engineering operations in compliance with established engineering standards and best practices.

  • ·Manages a team of model makers and the corresponding workshop space within our Tryer innovation center

  • ·Autonomously and appropriately applies knowledge, processes, skills, tools, and techniques to engineering activities to meet program and project goals.

As an R&D Technical Manager, you will…

  • ·Support team’s career development through deepening of technical expertise and business acumen while exemplifying Starbucks’ Mission & Values.

  • ·Programmatically designs engineering trial plans and approves tech manuals.

  • ·Remain current, shares, and creates engineering standards and methodology.

  • ·Leverage understanding of organization's engineering standards and best practices.

  • ·Optimize engineering resources to solve problems.

  • ·Collaborate, influence, and support within the team and cross-functional peers.

  • ·Demonstrates interpersonal skills and builds relationships within organization and cross-functionally.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • ·Education: BS Engineering with 7 plus experience of experience

  • ·Knowledge of food and chemical processes, in addition to mechanical aptitude

  • ·Knowledge of sensory, experimental design, statistics, and consumer research methodology

  • ·Knowledge of technical engineering design, development, certifications (NSF/UL), and standards

  • ·Utilizes experience to apply strategy level solutions to complex enterprise-wide problems.

  • ·Able to clearly, quickly (impromptu) and independently represent technical findings, express interpretation of results, engineering point of view and recommend direction through both written and spoken forms of communication.

  • ·Able to present and tailor communications to all levels of leadership, both within and outside functional boundaries.

  • ·Acute knowledge of diverse approaches to innovation, design, and consumer understanding.
