Abbott Director, Privacy Program Management & Operations in Abbott Park, Illinois

This position is a critical and trusted leadership role providing the operational lead for Abbott’s global privacy program and organization. This global role will help drive strategic and operational business process planning, support and direct change management throughout the organization, support and help drive enterprise-wide privacy initiatives while building and maintaining key relationships across the organization. This role will work closely with Abbott’s Office of Ethics and Compliance (OEC) team, global IT organization and other critical internal stakeholders.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Lead global privacy program management and operations and continuously improve enterprise-wide privacy program processes for:

  • Online privacy compliance for consumer tracking technologies and other privacy enhancing technologies.

  • Incident response management.

  • Privacy risk assessments.

  • Individual rights process management.

  • Third party risk management.

  • Privacy awareness and training.

  • Privacy audit support.

  • Government inquiries and investigations.

  • Enterprise risk management.

  • Data transfer management.

Lead privacy strategies for genAI and partner with internal IT team and other critical internal stakeholders to manage the integration of such strategies into enterprise-wide business processes.

Develop online privacy strategies and imbed strategies into multi-year technology roadmap.

Lead evolution and day to day operations with regards to Abbott’s privacy policies, standards and procedures.

Manage a diverse team.

Develop, implement, and deliver privacy and data protection communications including reports on privacy and data protection risks, risk mitigation measures, compliance activities, and program data and metrics for continuous improvement to senior management.

Develop a training strategy and then lead operations to implement this strategy across Abbott.

Maintain all training materials and website privacy content.

Proactively escalate and resolve potential issues by calling them to the attention of leadership and identifying potential solutions.

Implement the appropriate tools and measurement systems to drive the continuous improvement of the privacy program.

Drive a cohesive approach aligning to change management activities including communications planning, training and stakeholder management.

Partner with Abbott’s IT organization to define, prepare and communicate technology solutions which support privacy program operations.

Support the DVP Global Privacy in the preparation of board, executive committee, and other senior management presentations.

Lead all program related operations for monitoring and program specific performance metrics.

To be successful in this role (Requirements and Skills):

  • Master level or equivalent degree.

  • At least 10-15 years of working in compliance or similar operational leadership roles.

  • Proven experience as Director of Operations or equivalent position.

  • Excellent organizational, leadership abilities, intercultural and influencing skills.

  • Outstanding communication and people skills.

  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines.

  • In depth knowledge of Abbot’s business functions and products.

  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.

  • Privacy or compliance accreditation highly preferred.

  • Excellent project management and training skills.

  • Be detail-oriented, highly organized and independent.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a deadline-intensive environment while continuing to provide highly responsive service.

  • Willingness and flexibility to take on new responsibilities and challenges as the businesses continue to evolve.

  • Strongly preferred with a track record of providing practical business-friendly advice.

  • Ability to work in a flexible manner in line with the organization’s objectives and willingness to undertake other duties as reasonably requested.

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.

  • A track record in leading and delivering complex large-scale projects and partnerships, often managing a range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Budget planning and management experience and skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and executive presence.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on structure and execution.

  • Force for change who is open to new insights, accepts challenges and leads with positive energy.

  • Ability to think and act creatively, championing and promoting new ideas that contribute to the goals of the organization.

The base pay for this position is $162,000.00 – $324,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
