The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL campus for the Global Engineering Services division.
The Material Handler will work independently to manage, schedule, and prioritize the pickup, shipment, and delivery of materials and specialized equipment.
What You’ll Work On
Safely and effectively performs activities to manage, schedule, and prioritize the pickup, shipment, and delivery of materials and specialized equipment, instruments, and systems utilizing computerized asset management and shipping and receiving databases.
Utilize various computer systems such as Maximo maintenance management system, Cognos reporting, and shipping vendor software such as FED Ex systems for local and international shipping.
Utilizes pallet jacks, handcarts, and company vehicle, etc., for pickup and delivery of equipment and instruments between sites in Lake and Cook Counties.
Arranges for international shipments and ensures proper document is correct and accurate.
Evaluate packaging for adequacy and propose solutions when improvements are deemed necessary.
Maintains communication with customers on the pickup/delivery and service status of equipment and instruments.
Coordinates vehicle maintenance and priority requests from customers to ensure work is performed in a manner that does not interrupt laboratory operations.
Ensures tasks are performed and documented in compliance with approved procedures, standards, GxP and other quality requirements.
Completes assigned workload within predetermined schedules, and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Promptly communicate work status deviations, problems and general information including corrective action to the customer, supervision, and associates.
Safety knowledge, awareness and compliance with all safety, quality and other job-related policies and procedures; Actively participate in workplace safety and quality audits, and in other Corporate and departmental programs or initiatives.
Maintains personal, professional, and technical expertise through attendance and participation in in-house and external training courses, and other opportunities.
Demonstrated skills in working as a team member. Establishes and builds relationships and good communication channels with team members, customers, and other personnel, both internal and external to Abbott.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma plus 2 years work related experience and/or on the job training during which time the incumbent learns and becomes familiar with operational procedures and policies and general compliance practices.
Valid Driver’s License.
Computer systems and database experience required. Maximo and Cognos Systems experience a plus.
International shipping / Customs process and requirements experience a plus.
Background in pharmaceutical, medical device, health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, or similar industries, and instruments used in these industries a plus.

The base pay for this position is $22.05 – $44.15 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
