The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location for our GENC General Counsel division.

The Privacy and Regulatory Paralegal supports the Privacy and Regulatory attorneys by staying informed about global developments in privacy, cybersecurity, AI, data, and FDA regulations (covering medical devices, diagnostics, food, and drugs). This includes monitoring new regulations, published guidance, and enforcement actions. Works under the supervision and direction of attorneys.

What You’ll Work On

  • Legal Assistance : Assist attorneys to resolve routine and moderately complex to complex legal matters that involve various functional areas or divisions within Abbott with minimal supervision.

  • Legal Research and Analysis : Conduct research on emerging laws and regulations, independently identify relevant provisions, conduct analysis, and provide a summary to attorneys to support legal compliance as relevant for Abbott’s businesses.

  • Monthly Legal Updates : Develop monthly legal updates for review by attorneys for cross-functional dissemination. Use infographics and other tools to develop these newsletters.

  • Impact Assessments : Assist in developing privacy-related legal impact assessments globally to identify and mitigate privacy risks by using legal databases and other external resources.

  • Training and Awareness : Assist in developing and delivering legal training programs and awareness initiatives for employees.

  • Project Management : Manage various project trackers on a regular basis, create follow-up reports, and share with the teams.

  • Knowledge Management : Support the Knowledge Management project, including by managing Sharepoint sites, developing resources, and coordinating project progress.

Required Qualifications

  • At 3-5 years of corporate or law firm experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, preferably supporting Privacy, Cyber and Regulatory matters.

  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate)

  • Experience with SharePoint and an openness to learn other software tools to aid project tracking is preferred.

  • Familiarity with legal databases like Bloomberg, LexisNexis, Data Guidance, etc. for legal research.

  • Demonstrated project management skills. Attention to detail, good judgment, and exemplary organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Curiosity in learning (or deepening understanding of) Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Regulatory laws.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams) required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Position requires discretion, judgment, and critical thinking skills for identifying and resolving issues.

  • Strong communication skills required to effectively gather relevant information from Abbott’s businesses and interact with others, both inside and outside the Company.

  • Must possess attention to detail and strong editing and analytical skills to review, draft, and prepare documents.

  • Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking skills to manage multiple matters, set work priorities, and meet required work deadlines.

The base pay for this position is $54,000.00 – $108,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
