The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the GES Global Engineering Services division.

As the Senior Sous Chef, you will be responsible for assisting with the overall success of the corporate dining service program for the global headquarters of Abbott Laboratories. Functions include taking direction from management and senior culinary team members, hands on creation of daily catering and menu items, handling product inventory, serving Abbott’s employees and their guests, upholding safety, and also sanitation protocols. This position supports all phases of culinary operations for Abbott’s foodservice division and adheres to all guidelines, health department regulations, and Abbott’s company policies.

What You’ll Work On

  • PRIMARY FUNCTION

  • Provide excellent guest service.

  • Serve consistent, high-quality products.

  • Station Sanitation & Safety

  • Product Ordering

  • Supervising a minimum of 1 person

  • MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists preparing various food items.

  • Restock, pick list & ordering.

  • Menu Planning

  • Coordinate with other Sous Chefs for product utilization

  • Maintain a clean & sanitized work area.

  • Oversee all cooking procedures, finished product and portion control at the station.

  • Responsible for assisting chef in all food production operations. Responsibilities include supervision of 3-4 employees and overseeing production areas of prep, second, grill and breakfast cooks, which includes up to people.

  • Assumes responsibilities of the culinary team when Chef is absent.

  • Loading/lifting, bending, turning, reaching/handling, twisting, rolling/pushing, sterilization of knives, all equipment (steamers, ovens, registers, etc.)

  • Daily interruptions include frequency of equipment/environmental noise, telephone/alarms/timers, co-workers/guest interaction.

  • Manage quality control issues, guest service needs/desires, work team related issues, production levels.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and equivalent experience

  • Immediate knowledge of cooking principles and visible supervisory skills (ex. cost control, delegation skills, etc.)

  • Minimum cooking experience - 5 years

  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations

  • Knowledge of food and industry trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, safety, food cost controls, and presentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServSafe or Department of Health Certification

  • Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products

  • Associate degree in Culinary Arts

The base pay for this position is $17.50 – $35.00 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
