The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location as part of our Global Trade Compliance (GTC) team within the Corporate Finance division. As the Technician, you will provide a variety of services to support the mission of the Global Trade Compliance department. The Technician supports the Senior Director and the department, working with sites/divisions on a variety of import/export-related issues.

What You'll Do:

  • Act as document management coordinator for approximately 150 GTC policies and procedures (ensure timely periodic review, prepare/route change requests, etc.)

  • Act as training coordinator for GTC curriculum of 18 courses (schedule courses, maintain training logs, keep materials updated, etc.)

  • Work with external surety company to manage/coordinate all Customs bonds (ensure timely renewal, monitor bond adequacy, etc.)

  • Respond to broker requests for information and denied party screening requests, as needed.

  • Act as event coordinator for Global Trade Compliance Roundtable conferences (5 per year) (coordinate sourcing and contracts with procurement and preferred vendors, prepare annual meeting card budget and handle event close-outs)

  • Act as notary public for documents requiring notarization. Issue and revoke (as needed) Powers of Attorney for all US Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders. Monitor forwarder compliance with Abbott standards of care requirements.

  • Research and log refund checks received from US Customs.

  • Prepare monthly trending analysis of legal/consulting expenses.

  • Act as database administrator for various GTC systems.

  • Ensure GTC website is kept current; coordinate updates with relevant subject matter experts.

  • Perform general administrative duties to support Senior Director and department, as needed.

  • This position handles day-to-day issues and questions independently and decides when to involve the managers and/or Senior Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ experience in some combination of the following: customs/trade compliance, document management, training coordination, conference/event planning and/or basic accounting

  • Must be (or eligible to become) a commissioned Notary Public in the state of Illinois.

  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, M-Files, and Ariba.

  • The applicant must be a highly organized professional with a strong attention to detail. Must be able to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must possess excellent time management skills and be able to multitask and reprioritize workload as needed, while still meeting deadlines and commitments.

  • Must be able to self-check work for accuracy and completeness.

  • Must possess good communication skills, both verbal and written, and be able to effectively communicate with management and external parties (including brokers, attorneys, consultants, suppliers, affiliates, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

The base pay for this position is $24.75 – $49.55 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
