The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

Responsible for material characterization of raw materials, in-processing samples, & finished goods using imaging technology, element analysis & spectrometry. Technical expert, who independently investigates, identifies, develops and optimizes new methods, processes, or techniques to address critical project needs. Write protocols, reports, and amendments. Perform validations for methods, processes or equipment. Coordinates with collaborators to execute protocols and studies. Continuously seek to improve existing methods and processes. Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques, methods of data analysis or operational processes.

What you'll work on

  • Independently design, execute experiments, studies or process improvement plans.

  • Interpret results critical to answer scientific questions and recognize aberrant test results or adverse trends.

  • Learn, understand and master new techniques or processes, and act as a resource for others.

  • Innovate and implement new experimental protocols, studies or operational processes.

  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in his/her field.

  • Set and meet timelines.

  • Effectively organize and present work.

  • Contribute to writing and conceptual framework of operating procedures, regulatory submissions, impact assessments, publications, presentations, and patents.

  • Understand the broad objectives of project and goals as well as their role in achieving those objectives.

  • Be able to modify plan when required, to respond.

  • Routinely read and apply relevant literature or regulatory requirements.

  • Impact projects mostly through project plans or lab-based activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biology or related scientific field

  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience. Must have complete understanding of specified functional area.

  • Relevant experience with method development and validation expertise with SEM, optical microscope, EDS, Raman and other spectrometry techniques.

  • Expert in instrument troubleshooting and data analyses/interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in science or a related field.

The base pay for this position is $95,500.00 – $190,900.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
