Job Summary :

Caterpillar Switchgear, part of the Electric Power Division, currently has an opening for a Software HMI Engineer located in Alpharetta, Georgia. In this role, you will design, modify, develop, write, and implement software-programming for generator control switchgear human machine interface applications. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.

What You Will Do:

• Modify template HMI programs to coincide with project-specific PLC programs.

• Modify Operator Manuals to reflect project specific HMI screens.

• Configure industrial computers with software and HMI project.

• Provide HMI Engineering/Technical support to Production, Helpdesk, Field Service and Aftermarket

• Support various HMI packages such as FactoryTalk, Vijeo, iFix and GE

• Will participate in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of the HMI software.

• Will assist the Product Support Department with troubleshooting field HMI projects / remote PC configurations etc.

• Will remain up to date with industry changes, directions and improvements regarding HMI and Network infrastructure.

What you will have:

Degree Requirement

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) or equivalent work experience preferred.

• Develops processes for transforming aggregate data into useful business information.

• Analyzes BI gained from multiple and diverse environments.

• Evaluates key benefits, drawbacks, and rationale for existing BI activities.

Application Design, Architecture: Level Basic Understanding:

• Describes basic activities and deliverables associated with application design.

• Discusses technical architecture relevant to own environment.

• Identifies technical application architecture standards and considerations.

• Names the specific tasks, activities, and deliverables of technical application design.

Data Warehousing: Level Working Knowledge:

• Utilizes data warehousing tools and techniques.

• Assists with data planning, sourcing, collection, and transformation.

• Ensures the stability and effectiveness of an organization's data repository by following organizational guidelines.

• Assesses various information systems which provide data to an integrated repository.

• Addresses user needs from an organization's data warehouse.

Systems Software Infrastructure: Level Working Knowledge:

• Reports software connectivity and integration issues.

• Demonstrates planned software changes on the local environment.

• Administers software migration and contingency plans related to own function.

• Analyzes the local software architecture components and products.

• Tests key features for the entire software infrastructure environment.

Technical Troubleshooting: Level Working Knowledge:

• Discovers, analyzes, and resolves hardware, software, or application problems utilizing Factory Talk HMI software.

• Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools, and utilities.

• Handles calls related to product features, applications, and compatibility standards.

• Analyzes code, logs, and current systems as part of advanced troubleshooting.

• Records and reports specific technical problems, solving processes and tools that have been used.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

• Candidate must have programming experience, VB scripting, Java scripting.

• Good oral and written communication skills.

• Good organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills.

• Computer proficient including Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Requires a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

• Programming Responsibilities: Develop custom reports via HTML, JavaScript, and CSS

Additional Information

• This position will sit from Alpharetta, GA, in a hybrid flexible role (3 days in office, 2 days work from home).

• 5% travel will be needed to assist field representatives occasionally.

• Relocation assistance is NOT offered for this position.
