What does a great Software Development Engineer – Advisor I do at Fiserv?

The Software Development Engineer – Advisor I will work in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirement gathering, application design, system development, testing and implementation. The Software Development Engineer must be capable of producing high quality code, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This role liaises with project managers, lead developers, business analysts, and may also include some client interaction.

What you will do:

In this role, you will Develop code that meets design and architectural requirements and supports system testing. Understand the impact of changes across the application. Discuss aspects of the design with architects, team leads and business analysts to check understanding and raise concerns. Enhance and maintain existing application software, continually providing support for internally developed applications. Accurately communicate development status on a regular basis to team leads. Assist the production support team in defect analysis.

What you will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree

  • 5+ years’ experience in COBOL, CICS, BMS Maps, VSAM, JCL and IBM Utilities experience

  • 5+ years’ experience with IBM Mainframes and TSO/ISPF development environment

  • 5+ years’ experience with Endevor or similar source control application

  • 5+ years’ experience in software design principles and software architecture

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

  • A self-starter, who takes initiative with challenging situations.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as work with others in a group development setting.

What would be great to have:

  • 2+ years’ experience with PEP+ Mainframe ACH Software.

  • Experience building reusable components and modules.

  • Experience with performance improvements and high-volume transaction processing

  • Experience with financial service applications

  • Experience with Agile/Kanban development methodologies

  • Experience with JIRA

  • Experience working with remote and offshore development teams.

  • Experience with IBM DEBUG and File Manager

  • Experience with CLIST and REXX
