Lockheed Martin Environment Safety & Health Engineer in Andover, Massachusetts

As an Environment Safety & Health Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of safety across our 95,000-square-foot site. Responsibilities will include:

• Direct and manage contracts supporting the ESH organization, including hazardous waste management and disposal, environmental assessments, permitting, and emergency response activities

• Ensure compliance to US EPA TSCA 5(e) regulations for the commercialization of new chemicals

• Manage safety testing of new chemicals through international regulatory processes

• Lead the site’s safety committee and drive safety-related approvals, investigations, and initiatives

• Promote a culture of ESH excellence through performance improvement initiatives and employee engagement activities

• Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders and partners to enhance programs and facilitate metric reporting

• Manage the site’s ESH management system elements and support development and reporting of metrics and performance data

• Assure compliance with applicable ESH regulatory, corporate, and customer requirement

• Coordinate implementation of MFC and Corporate ESH assessment and recordkeeping programs

• Support emergency and response operations by assisting staff during response activities, driving post-incident investigation and corrective action activities, and as part of the Emergency Operations Command team

• Support management of the ESH organization’s expense and capital budgets

• Coordinate with other MFC locations and represent the facility in working groups or new initiatives

• Work independently and as part of a functional team to resolve issues

• Support review of existing process and facilities to identify ESH issues

A level 4 employee is typically senior-career and has 7 to 9+ years of professional experience.

The locale: Andover, Massachusetts, a suburb located approximately 25 miles northwest of Boston, offers a blend of historic charm and modern convenience. Situated near Lowell, Massachusetts, and Salem, New Hampshire, Andover provides easy access to a variety of attractions. To the north, you'll find New Hampshire's White Mountains and ski resorts, while the scenic coastal towns of MA and NH are just 45 minutes to the east. Andover boasts New England charm, excellent schools, diverse shopping options, and a vibrant restaurant scene. This area is steeped in rich history, from the early days following the arrival of the Pilgrims to the events of the Revolutionary War. The town is conveniently located about 90 minutes from Cape Cod, with Boston a mere 30-minute drive south (traffic dependent). New York City is reachable by car in approximately 4.5 hours. For outdoor enthusiasts, major ski resorts in New Hampshire and Vermont, including Waterville Valley, are a 2 to 3-hour drive to the north. Notably, Andover provides greater affordability compared to other locations in the Boston metropolitan area, with easy access to Northeastern and North Central Massachusetts, as well as Southern New Hampshire.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree

• At least 7 years of related experience

• Strong understanding of environmental and occupational safety and health requirements in manufacturing, research, and development (R&D), and operations

• Experience developing and maintaining environmental, safety, and health programs in compliance with governing regulations

• Proficient with computer-based tools and applications (Microsoft Office business programs)

• MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN or Permanent Resident in order to gain facility access

Desired Skills:

• Bachelor's Degree in Environment Safety and Health or related field is preferred

• Environment Safety & Health experience in laboratory environments

• Experience reporting to and interfacing with Massachusetts and Federal environmental and safety regulatory agencies

• Previously demonstrated leadership experience of a small group or team

• Previous experience planning and allocating tasks and workload across a team

• Knowledge of and experience with ESH management system elements, such as ISO 14001/45001

• Ability to make difficult decisions, solve complex issues and influence ESH cultural improvement

• Ability to respond to internal and external issues to maintain regulatory compliance and enhance the employee experience

• Experience authoring command media and program documentation

• Experience in change management and planning activities as they relate to ESH integration and considerations

• Application of continuous improvement tools and techniques knowledge including thorough root cause analysis and mistake-proofing processes

• Experience with writing/managing chemical hygiene plans

• CSP certification a plus

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
