Aerojet Rocketdyne Intern - Business Support in Arlington, Virginia

Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) is seeking a student intern to support its Washington Operations organization located in Arlington, VA . Washington Operations conducts a variety of activities and outreach to Executive Branch officials, Members of Congress and their staffs, and other related industry associations and think tanks to ensure AR’s interests are considered in Federal policy and funding decisions. Internships at AR provide both an opportunity and challenge for students to enhance their professional skills to include: government/civics, public policy advocacy and outreach, critical thinking abilities, and communication skills.

A successful student-candidate will be a self-starter with a strong interest public policy, government, and aerospace and defense.

AR is a world recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to the space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armament sectors in support of domestic and international markets. Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

  • Updates and use case analysis for the Satellite Electric Propulsion database.

  • Support Mars architecture trade study comparing two-year vs. three-year missions

  • Support for Washington Operations white papers on SLS for deep space exploration.

Requirements

Candidate must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Business, Political Science, Government & Political Affairs (or similar major) and returning to school upon completion of the assignment.

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An interest in issues related to public policy affecting the aerospace and defense sectors.

  • Interest/experience in the Legislative and Executive branches of government.

  • Experience creating and maintaining databases.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • High technical proficiency (MS Office Suite, etc.)

  • Self-motivated, team-oriented with a solid track record of success.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
