How you’ll make an impact:

In this role, you will be part of the General Counsel’s office as a core member of the legal department, with frequent and direct interaction with Company leaders and the members of the real estate team.

This role reports into the Senior Director Real Estate, Assistant General Counsel and is based in our Buckhead Atlanta office in and on-site (hybrid) work environment

75% REAL ESTATE AND RELATED SUPPORT

  • Analyzes, independently drafts, and provides feedback on various types of legal documents for attorney review (including retail store leases, amendments, option notices, corporate office leases and amendments, distribution center leases and amendments, and other documents related to the real estate business), ensuring they are legally compliant and legally sound

  • Collects, compiles, and utilizes technical information to make independent decisions, or recommendations to supervising attorney, as delegated by the supervising attorney

  • Coordinate and assist with closings on real estate leases

  • Monitor outside counsel legal spend for retail store leases and operations and provide periodic reports on such spend to the supervising attorney

  • Coordinate and oversee use of internal matter management software (LawVu) to streamline management of lease review matters

  • Oversee and assist with legal claims and/or litigation related to the company’s retail stores, corporate office leases and/or distribution centers, as delegated by the supervising attorney

  • Provide advice regarding, and coordinate on, matters related to operation of stores, including, but not limited to, damage to stores, operational issues at stores that require legal assistance, and compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act matters related to Carter’s stores and eCommerce business

  • Oversee (based on delegation of supervising attorney) operational matters related to the company’s retail store leases, including:

  • overseeing and assisting with coordination and scheduling of real estate committee meetings and portfolio management committee meetings;

  • signature of leases and any related documentation;

  • preparation of tracking reports related to leases (including, but not limited to, tracking charts for new store leases and existing store lease amendments, option notices and/or terminations); and

  • coordinating with third-party for abstraction of leases into the company’s third-party system (CoStar) used for tracking of leases

  • Other duties as requested by supervising attorney and/or members of the legal team

25% INSURANCE CLAIM AND RELATED MATTERS

  • Assistance with insurance claims and renewals for real estate and supply chain, including property, business interruption, and lost cargo/inventory. Also, support on other claim-related tasks as assigned. Produce regular trend reports for the department.

We’d Love to hear from you if: (Requirements section)

Must have:

  • 8+ years of experience as a paralegal handling a full range of issues related to real estate matters, ideally with in-house experience and a focus on experience with reviewing high volume/multi location leases and renewals (Retail preferred)

  • Solid written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with executive officers with minimal supervision

  • Computer literacy, including the ability to work with a lease tracking platform (CoStar preferred) and other information databases, and advanced proficiency in Excel, Powerpoint, and Sharepoint

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects and manage deadlines (attention to detail)

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and with demonstrated leadership

  • Highly collaborative environment with Real Estate, Operations, Finance, and Legal teams

  • Paralegal certification preferred
