The Opportunity

This position works out of our Atlanta, GA location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to specify, characterize and qualify manufacturing processes and equipment for the existing Abbott (CardioMEMS) product in order to meet daily production schedule, while enhancing productivity and product quality.

This position will also support the development/transfer of new product design into manufacturing and provide technical solutions. And may require to work in ISO class 5 and class 7 cleanroom environments and required handling production materials and process chemicals.

What You’ll Work On

  • Manage and perform projects which include new production equipment installation and qualification, process improvements, yield improvements, and cost reductions while supporting daily production activities.

  • Collect and analyze in process data to evaluate capability and determine areas for process improvement.

  • Drive process improvements and validations through manufacturing implementation and update pFMEAs and master validation plan as required.

  • Provide direct technical support on production issues (e.g. part & assembled product quality dispositions, interim containment actions, root cause analysis, resolution planning, validation, & implementation) under NCMR or CAPA. Provide guidance to other engineers and technicians.

  • Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput through the use of Lean manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, 5S and Visual Workplace.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to transfer new products efficiently and effectively into manufacturing.

  • Work with various internal and external organizations to optimize manufacturing processes or resolving technical issues w/ on-going products or new products.

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and QA to improve productivity and reduce costs.

  • Participate as a manufacturing lead and/or support a lead on cross-functional core teams.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

Education and Experience You’ll Bring

Required

  • Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, related engineering degree or equivalent experience required

  • 6+ years manufacturing engineering experience

  • Medical device experience preferred

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills

  • Demonstrated leadership capability in team settings

  • Six Sigma certification preferred

Preferred

  • Experience expertise in process and equipment validations, quality analysis & resolution (process improvements)

  • Practical experience/knowledge of DFM, DFX and GD&T principles valuable

  • Expertise with root cause analysis, troubleshooting, process capability analysis, risk analysis and design of experiment are desirable

  • Experience with CAD design, SPC, DOE, CMM, six sigma concepts, and/or project management skills a plus

  • Strong communication skills – verbal & written skills, good collaboration & coordination skills with cross functional teams

  • Good organization and time utilization skills. Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, MS Project, Powerpoint)

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
