We are looking for a talented and driven individual to join our Computer Vision team at Johnson & Johnson. As a 2-year postdoctoral researcher, you will have the exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of advanced AI/ML methods for analyzing medical images. Through the use of these innovative technologies, you will improve our understanding of multiple disease areas, ultimately enhancing drug discovery and clinical trial efficacy and efficiency.

The Data Science Analytics & Insights team within Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine develops innovative solutions using a variety of data sources across multiple different disease areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, develop, and implement AI image analysis solutions to high-priority scientific problems.

  • Participate in cross-functional collaborations with external companies and internal scientific, clinical, and data science teams.

  • Shape internal/external collaborations and define the scope of research questions.

  • Extract insight from complex medical images to improve drug discovery and healthcare (e.g., disease identification, patient stratification, disease insights).

  • Clearly articulate highly technical methods and publish results to diverse audiences and partners to drive decision-making.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in a field related to quantitative analysis, such as physics, mathematics, artificial intelligence, computer science, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, or similar, completed within the last 2 years or within the next 3 months.

  • Demonstrated experience driving research in and applying Computer Vision techniques (e.g., Transformers, CNNs, RNNs, GANs) is required.

  • Proven expertise in modern image analysis techniques (e.g., foundation models, transformers, self supervised learning) is required.

  • Proficiency with Python is required.

  • Extensive experience with traditional Computer Vision applications, such as OpenCV, object detection, edge detection, image segmentation is required.

  • Experience with machine learning algorithms, including random forest, SVM, boosting, neural networks, etc., is required.

  • Experience with training large foundation models for medical images is preferred.

  • Experience with multimodal AI (e.g. Vision Language Models - VLMs) is preferred.

  • Experience with C is also preferred.

  • Familiarity with and exposure to drug discovery and clinical development processes is preferred.

  • Experience working closely with healthcare professionals is preferred.

  • Experience with meaningful disease biology in cancer, immunology, neuroscience, cardiovascular, or infectious disease is preferred.

The anticipated base pay for this position is $95,000. The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year

  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
