Data Technology is one of the critical pillars within the newly established Chief Data Office (CDO), part of T. Rowe Price’s Chief Operating Office (COO) . The Data Technology pillar is responsible for the necessary architecture and technology stack to support data collection, storage, processing, and analysis. Our vision is to empower the organization to make data-driven decisions through trusted and cost-efficient data products and tools that provide timely , consistent, and accurate fit-for-purpose data.

The Role

The Head of Data Architecture reports to the Head of Data Technology and is a pivotal leadership role responsible for evangelizing, implementing, and continuously improving the organization's data architecture. Key responsibilities include ensuring data accuracy and accessibility (in partnership with Data Governance ), and aligning data architecture with business objectives and strategy.

We're looking for someone who is not only a visionary leader but also someone who can get their hands dirty. You'll spend part of your time collaboratively architecting solutions with your team and with the engineering team , ensuring your architectural decisions are pragmatic and meet real-world needs.

The Head of Data Architecture collaborates closely with business, data and technology stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making, optimize operational efficiency, and foster innovation. Data Architecture also play s a crucial role in governing the implementation of data standards and policies, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations .

The Head of Data Architecture plays a transformative role across the organization by fostering strategic partnerships with both business units and the enterprise architecture functions . This role is instrumental in bridging the gap between business needs and technological capabilities, ensuring that data strategies not only align with but also propel business objectives forward. By collaborating closely with enterprise architects, the Head of Data Architecture ensures that data systems and structures seamlessly integrate with the broader IT landscape, enhancing efficiency and innovation. This partnership enables the organization to harness the full potential of its data assets, driving improved decision-making, operational excellence, and competitive advantage. Moreover, through these collaborative efforts, the organization is better positioned to adapt to market changes, leverage emerging technologies, and meet evolving customer demands, thereby securing its long-term success and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities

  • A ctive promotion of the organization's data technology strategy, aligning stakeholders across the organization. 

  • Chair the Data Design Authority, leading discussions and driving consensus regarding data-related changes across the organization . 

  • Design and maintain a comprehensive core enterprise data model, proactively educating and engaging stakeholders on its importance and usage. 

  • Contribute to the data technology strategy implementation in collaboration with the data platforms engineering team .

  • Become a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the organization, providing expert guidance and advocating for the benefits of effective data architecture solutions. 

  • Devise and champion data standards, building consensus and securing buy-in from various teams. 

  • Develop and enforce security and privacy measures, educating stakeholders on their importance and gaining their support. 

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration, fostering strong relationships and active engagement with teams to seamlessly integrate data architecture with business processes and technology initiatives. 

  • Identify and address any resistance or lack of awareness regarding the data vision and strategy. Develop and deliver compelling presentations and communications to persuade stakeholders of the benefits of the established approach. 

  • Provide expert guidance and advice on data architecture to stakeholders across the organization. 

  • Devise and socialize data architecture principles, in partnership with Data Governance ensuring consistency and quality across all data assets. 

  • Build and manage a high-performing data architecture team:  l ead, motivate, and develop a team of data architects, ensuring that they have the skills and resources to deliver on the organization's data initiatives. 

    Experience & Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

  • BS/MS degree Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field desired

  • 15+ years of experience in software architecture and data management. 

  • 10+ years of experience in financial services (asset management, hedge fund or investment bank strongly desired) 

  • 10+ years of data engineering experience and r ecent hands-on experience desired

  • Proven experience in successfully implementing and gaining buy-in for data architecture solutions across diverse stakeholder groups. 

  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, data integration, and data quality management. 

  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices. 

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus. 

  • Experience architecting data integration with external middle office providers (such as BNYM)  desired

  • Deep understanding of data architecture principles, best practices, and technologies. 

  • Passion for data and a commitment to using data to drive business value. 

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
