The Front Office Investments technology team seeks a Senior Data Analyst for a newly established technology-based Investments Reference Data Operations function.
This Technology Data Operations function is dedicated to a new firm-wide, AWS cloud-based single source of truth (SSoT) for security & index reference data, with core analytics. The SSoT serves a wide ranging and sophisticated consumer base including Quant Research, Investment Risk, Performance Attribution as well as Global Trading and Operations groups.
The role will perform a variety of data analysis activities in addition to managing the daily running of the production SSoT, particularly from a data ingestion and data quality perspective. The data domain to be managed is very broad (securities, issuers/legal entities, indices, prices, ratings & classifications), across the asset classes and for diverse Use Cases. In particular, this role will champion the index data set.
Bloomberg PolarLake is a key component of the SSoT, leveraging Bloomberg products & services (e.g. Bloomberg Data License) alongside multiple index vendors and middle office service providers. The data ingestion/distribution pipeline supports multiple consumer access patterns, primarily via API endpoints.
Though this is not a business operations or data processing role, a strong understanding of financial markets & asset management data is expected. Furthermore, though this is not a data science role, some methods and tools of that nature are employed for data analysis purposes (e.g. Python & Pandas).
The successful candidate will enjoy working with and curating a large volume of high value investment data - wrangling, pursuing problems to root cause with tenacity and persistence, and a relentless focus on data quality each day. They will also possess a deep understanding of the data that drives the asset management industry, together with competency in today’s data analysis skills & technologies.
Core Competencies and Responsibilities:
Self-starter with excellent problem-solving & critical-thinking skills to meet complex data challenges. Flexible and comfortable with uncertainty in requirements in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment
Take ownership and champion data topics, with the flexibility and interpersonal skills to interact across the business and manage a project / team where required. Develop data competences in the Data Operations team and drive out the Data Ops capability
Analyze complex data sets in depth for discovery purposes, issues and trends/patterns. Make independent/educated judgements & recommendations regarding appropriate solutions
Design, execute and manage bulk data operations across environments, including production
Design & develop Data Quality measures, for both run and change initiatives
Develop and sustain relationships with data consumers and face off to the internal data consumers for daily operations of the SSoT
Monitor the daily running of the production SSoT, particularly with respect to correct data ingestion and data quality achieved. Manage data-related interventions through to resolution
Monitor Data Product usage & costs including Bloomberg Data License and assist in data vendor on boarding & management activities
Create and maintain key artifacts for the SSoT such as end consumer on boarding guides, ‘as built’ high level documentation and daily running procedures
Assist in team planning and assist in the wider team’s Change Management to enable change projects & business requests
Along with the responsibilities and competencies specified above, we are looking for an individual who possesses a positive, action-oriented attitude and understands the importance of taking initiative within a team environment.
