Electrical Engineering Intern - BWX Technologies - Barberton, Ohio

We are looking for motivated college student to join our highly-skilled team of Electrical Engineers for an exciting summer internship in Barberton, Ohio.

At BWXT, our interns perform challenging tasks in their field of study while developing and delivering unique solutions for use in a nuclear environment. Our interns work collaboratively as part of our manufacturing and operational teams and will tackle various projects and tasks relating directly to fabrication and engineering challenges. Interns will be exposed to various parts of the manufacturing process that may include process and procedure creation/revisions, assisting with product and/or tooling improvements, perform testing and analysis, and assist with engineering and shop operations personnel on a daily basis. A BWXT internship not only provides valuable on the job training but allows you to be a part of something bigger!

BWXT offers paid internships along with a housing stipend for those interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from Barberton, OH. Internships will last approximately 10-12 weeks. At the end of the internship, each intern has the opportunity to present their completed work/ assigned projects to the leadership team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Power Systems

  • Intern shall be accompanied at all times where higher voltages are present and gain valuable training on how to safely access and assess substation equipment.

  • Intern will gain knowledge pertaining to power distribution

  • Project management, construction management, project engineering

  • Power Distribution basics – Transformers, Breakers, Cables

  • Perform conductor sizing and conduit fill calculations

  • Perform voltage drop and short circuit calculations

  • Intern will gain understanding of arc flash safety and mitigation.

  • Attend a one-day certification course for arc flash awareness and safety.

  • Required before Intern shall gain access to substations

  • Learn basic power system modeling and one-line modeling

  • Perform field analysis on existing power systems

  • Document “As Built” items into a computer model

  • Utilization of EasyPower software tool

  • Labelling, documentation, verification of existing systems

  • Perform Selective Coordination and Time Current Curve (TCC) studies.

  • Assist supervision with work order issues and documentation.

  • Summer 2025 – Facility Maintenance Power Outage scheduled

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled full time in an accredited university/college in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, engineering or similar degree.

  • Successful candidate will be self-directed and detail oriented.

  • NOTE: To ensure safety at all times, all tasks will be guided.

  • Must be US Citizen.

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

  • Ideal candidate’s area of study is Electrical Engineering.

  • Preferred candidate will have AutoCAD experience.

  • Must be willing to work in a shop and substation environments.
