The Role at a Glance

We are excited to bring on a Long Term Disability (LTD) Technical Specialist II to our Group Protection Organization in a work from home environment.

Background Details

As a Long Term Disability Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for managing highly complex Long-Term Disability claims for a variety of customers. These claims require in-depth initial and ongoing investigations, along with a deep understanding of the LTD contract and the evaluation of situational, financial and occupational elements. You will be responsible for managing an assigned caseload, while also supporting other LTD teams in providing technical guidance. The role is dynamic and fast paced, and is centered around teamwork and collaboration with peers, management and best practices. If this sounds like a role for you, please read on!

What you'll be doing

  • You will manage a caseload of complex claims that cover a variety of eligibility types, policy provisions, and/or multiple diagnoses and claim factors.

  • You will analyze and process claims by investigating and obtaining a wide range of complex information. You will apply claims policies & procedures and appropriately engage intervention of internal/external resources to ensure fair, ethical, and timely management of assigned claims.

  • You will utilize strong judgment and knowledge of claims management to make decisions based on information available at the time of decision.

  • You will analyze and interpret complex coverage contracts to determine if eligibility is met.

  • You will effectively manage your time and desk organization while coaching others on techniques and systems for organizing/prioritizing work and staying current on caseload.

  • You will identify and resolve gaps in financial calculations and offsets when applicable, sharing technical knowledge and approach on financial calculations with team members.

  • You will interpret calculations correctly involving complex contract provisions and work with applicable resources as needed to resolve issues.

  • You will understand and reinforce to junior team members the importance of correct and accurate eligibility decisions and benefit calculations.

What we’re looking for

Must-have experience (Required):

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or 4 years of equivalent work experience in lieu of Bachelor's degree.

  • 1 – 3+ years of Claims experience directly aligned to the specific responsibilities of this position.

Nice-to-have experience (Preferred):

  • Long term disability claims experience and knowledge.

  • Ability to perform under stress in cases of emergency, critical or hazardous situations.

  • Ability to work with others in a fast paced, team environment.

  • Demonstrated solid relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. management, peers and colleagues).

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail.

Pay Range: $53,500 - $92,500

Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
