JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a visionary and experienced Senior Director to lead three critical areas of one of the largest technology transformation in the hospitality industry. These areas include:

  1. Maturing application & Infrastructure observability platform capabilities

  2. Strategy and migration of hotel technologies (apps and infra.) to cloud

  3. Resiliency and recoverability (DR) of technology workloads

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in modern cloud based infrastructure engineering, observability best practices, and a proven track record of leadership in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This role is for a technical leader with engineering background and a proven track record of delivering cross functional technology initiatives in complex global Fortune 500 organizations.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Required :

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science

• 10+ years of experience in information technology with hands-on technical/engineering roles, including:

o 3+ years of experience with managing observability solutions using tools like Dynatrace, Grail, Splunk Cloud, Cribl, etc.

o 5+ years of experience in AWS, Azure, and Alibaba Cloud platforms' log ingestion solutions.

o 3+ years in cloud migrations

o 5+ years in modern disaster recovery solutions

o Deep understanding of AWS services, architecture, and best practices.

• 3+ years of technology leadership experience where you served as a technical product owner or program manager:

o Experience driving a product from the concept phase through maturity.

o Experience in building product and solution strategy in a matrix environment

o Ability to influence, lead, and deliver multiple matrix teams in a complex environment

o Experience in researching emerging technologies, trends, standards, and products.

• Strong knowledge of emerging tools, software, applications, and AI solutions for achieving best-in-class IT technology across the enterprise.

• Experience in establishing and implementing observability best practices to standardize, monitor, and control usage/performance of solutions.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences, including executives, business stakeholders, and IT teams.

• Ability to create constructive relationships, influence, and communicate (to product team, engineering management, and non-technical staff)

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about migration challenges.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.

• Proven track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams.

Preferred :

• Required experience, plus:

o Experience in Dynatrace, Grail, or another observability platforms including dashboards, reports, and alerts.

o Experience in integrating observability tools with other IT Operations solutions such as Harness, ReadyAPI, ServiceNow, and BigPanda.

o Consulting or transformation experience is highly desirable

o Delivery focused with experience in Kanban and/or Agile

o Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Oversight:

• Lead and Oversee: Supervise three technology teams, each focused on distinct domain areas.

• Manage Workflows: Efficiently handle multiple requests and resolve impediments across all teams.

• Develop Talent: Mentor and enhance the skills of each team member, fostering their professional growth.

• Performance Management: Evaluate team performance and make strategic decisions on resource allocation and development needs.

• Problem-Solving: Guide teams in tackling complex problems and devising effective solutions.

• Opportunity Identification: Recognize and invest in growth opportunities for team members.

• Talent Acquisition: Recruit and onboard new talent as needed to strengthen team capabilities.

• Cultivate the Culture: Promote accountability, transparency, and continuous learning within the team.

• Industry Awareness: Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to key responsibilities.

• Travel: Either local to Marriott International HQ or ability to travel to HQ as needed.

• Maintain industry knowledge and enhance subject matter expertise, identify trends and changes in technology and automation strategies.

• Develop and communicate points of view on complex technical topics. Align multiple technical and non-technical areas on a common vision.

• Participate in and manage financial activities including budgets.

Observability:

• Create and implement a comprehensive strategy for infrastructure observability, encompassing monitoring, logging, and tracing across hundreds of applications and platforms supporting Marriott’s global business

• Lead a team of engineers and analysts in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust observability solutions.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the observability strategy aligns with business goals and objectives. Understand requirements, architect solutions, and deploy logging and monitoring environments that meet business needs.

• Establish and maintain metrics, dashboards, and alert standards to provide clear visibility into the health and performance of infrastructure components.

• Drive initiatives to enhance observability practices, automation, and tools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

• Onboard data sources from various IT infrastructure and application components into observability tools such as Dynatrace, Grail, Splunk, SignalFx, and Cribl.

• Develop observability standards that SRE teams can use to create customized dashboards for their respective application domains for proactive incident response.

• Leverage in-depth knowledge of AWS, Alibaba, and some Azure Cloud technologies to architect and manage multi-cloud observability capabilities.

Planning and Migrating infrastructure from 3000 hotels to AWS Cloud:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive program to move all infrastructure (hardware/software) hosted at the Marriott Properties (hotels) to AWS.

• Lead a team to build, execute, and manage detailed migration plans.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams including the cloud migration factory, continent technology teams, property support, finance and others to ensure the migration strategy aligns with business goals and objectives.

• Mature the TCO for 1x and ongoing operational costs of hosting property infrastructure on cloud.

• Coordinate across technology teams to ensure the security, reliability, and performance of the migrated infrastructure.

• Influence the migration factory and drive efficiency and effectiveness of the migration process through continuous improvement.

• Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts related to cloud migration services as necessary.

• Provide regular updates and reports to executive leadership on migration progress, risks, and issues.

• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning across the matrix team.

• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to cloud migration and AWS services.

Resiliency and Recoverability:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for technology resiliency and disaster recovery.

• Lead a team of engineers and analysts in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust resiliency and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.

• Shift the team's focus from administrative tasks and theoretical exercises to ensuring that workloads are resilient and recoverable in the event of a disaster.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the resiliency and DR strategy aligns with business goals and objectives.

• Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and tools for effective disaster recovery planning and execution.

• Ensure timely identification and resolution of resiliency and recoverability issues.

• Ensure that infrastructure and application can be recovered during major incidents.

• Conduct regular risk assessments, impact analyses, and disaster recovery drills to ensure preparedness.

• Drive initiatives to enhance resiliency and DR practices and tools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to resiliency and disaster recovery.

• Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous learning within the resiliency and DR team.

The salary range for this position is $141,700 to $240,000 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and restricted stock units/stock grants.

Washington Applicants Only: Employees will accrue 0.04616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
