Job Description

We are recruiting a Principal Scientist to join the Cell Line Development/Biologics Upstream Development team, helping to advance our Company’s biologics pipeline portfolio. The individual will play a critical role in leading the biologics pipeline early development and ensure robust biologics candidate development and efficient transition to clinical development team. The selected candidate will lead a Discovery - enabling group to ensure timely engagement in Discovery programs and successful milestone deliveries during molecule design, screening, and developability assessment stages, using innovative thinking, state-of-the-art platform technologies and fit-for-use methodology. Candidate should demonstrate and stay up to date on the knowledge of principles and theories related to protein engineering and expression technologies. Candidate should be knowledgeable and experienced in end-to-end cell line development, cell banking, process development and Investigational New Drug (IND) filing to provide line of sight of manufacturing, scale-up, and commercialization to the program team. Based in Boston, MA, the Principal Scientist will operate in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with Discovery, Analytical and other Cell Line Development groups on site and at our Company's other locations. The selected candidate will need to have up to two or three months of platform training at NJ site at beginning. Travel of up to 10% may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Clinical Laboratories & Diagnostics (CLD) subject matter expert in Discovery program core teams.

  • Interface with Discovery, Analytics and Cell Line Development cloning team in the planning, execution, and interpretation of expression strategies.

  • Execute and coordinate the vector construction and fit-for-purpose optimization of the expression systems to support all biologics modalities.

  • Execute and coordinate the analysis of production samples and material supply for the Discovery team.

  • Implement and optimize current HT and automation systems in vector construction, DNA/RNA preparation, transient/stable expression development with both bacterial and mammalian cell systems.

  • Develop and implement a state-of-art reagent tracking system and database.

  • Train and guide junior team members.

  • Identify and evaluate new technologies to improve efficiency and productivity.

  • Responsible for memos, technical reports and relevant sessions of IND filing.

Educational Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in a life sciences

Required Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of 10 years of biologics industry or related experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of with end-to-end knowledge of Cell Line Development and Cell Banking system.

  • Experienced in leading biologics pipeline programs and functional team.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Experience with molecular biology, vector construction, transient and stable production cell development with bacterial, yeast and Chinese Hamster Ovaries (CHO) host systems.

  • Experience in protein engineering, Oncology and/or Infectious Disease fields.

  • Creative. Critical thinking. Strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated strong record of scientific achievement (publications, patents, etc.).

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
