Job Description:

This role is primarily responsible for leading initiatives designed to help families navigate the complexities of wealth by applying advanced methodologies in support of family wealth dynamics and governance. This requires extensive experience in multiparty facilitation, which may be applied to high-tension scenarios, as well as a proven track record in training and experiential learning, to share insights and develop constituents on the topics and disciplines associated with this field of work. Developing and publishing thought leadership is an important component of this role as well as creating initiatives that will have strategic impact for advisors and clients. Ideally, the candidate can demonstrate a research-oriented approach to thought-provoking and practical content development with exceptional written and oral communication skills.

The role supports the Financial Advisor/Client relationship, requiring the candidate to have strong relationship management skills, a track record of team-based engagement, and a collaborative, client service-oriented mindset. Experience in developing and delivering educational offerings and coaching to Advisors is key. The Merrill Center for Family Wealth (The Center) operates as a cohesive team with a common vision, placing a premium on collaboration, accountability and integrity. Projects and initiatives may require coordination with colleagues from across the firm. Thus an enterprise orientation is essential.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Family Meetings Facilitation – Design, facilitate and follow-through

  • Advisor Education/Development – Design and deliver educational offerings and coaching support for Financial Advisors

  • Client Education – Provide subject matter expertise through educational tools, resources and events

  • Geographic focus: Primary focus is on serving west-coast based Advisors, clients and prospects

  • Thought Leadership – Author whitepapers, articles, and other collateral

  • Strategic Program Development - Create and execute high-impact initiatives that add strategic capability to the repertoire of the Center in its work with clients and advisors

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience with UHNW families ($50MM+ net worth), focused on family meeting facilitation, family dynamics, education and governance

  • Expertise in advanced high-tension multiparty facilitation with ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals and families

  • Experience and interest in authoring client-facing and/or Advisor-facing pieces to share family governance insights and considerations

  • Previous experience in the financial services industry preferred

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Word and PowerPoint

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Obtain the confidence and trust of Advisors and clients through subject matter expertise and a thougtful and collaborative approach

  • Develop strong, open communication channels with colleagues within Merrill Private Wealth Management and across the firm to elicit feedback and promote collaboration on an ongoing basis

  • Generate thought leadership and programs that amplify the impact of the Center for Family Wealth

  • Serve as an active team player, partnering with other members of the Center team in sharing insights and feedback

  • Proactively identify new ideas and topics of interest for group discussion to contribute to the team’s overall success and competitive strength
