PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a Foundry environment. Aluminum die casting of numerous components for the Marine industry as well as other customers. As a Mercury Marine Toolmaker in our facility, you will be responsible for the care and maintenance of die-cast tooling of various sizes small to large weighing 5 tons to 50 tons. The main parts produced include propellers, gearcases, driveshaft housings, and engine blocks.

  • Unionized workforce

  • Uniforms provided and required

  • Some ladder and catwalk work is required

  • Rigging and overhead bridge crane use with capacities of up to 50 tons

  • PIT – Powered industrial truck = forklift (Various sizes) and Heavy die-moving equipment (Tiller Walkies and remote-control table movers)

  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities

  • Line side support – Torch stuck castings, replace small components, accessible plumbing issues, recolonizing and welding while in the machine.

  • Mid-run repairs of die cast tooling (priority shop work) similar to line side support with tooling pulled due to accessibility and or severity of condition

  • End-of-run die cast tooling maintenance (work order fulfillment) – scarves and weld, changing inserts and small coring, changeover tooling to make different part#, clean and lubricate mold components.

  • Prepare die-cast tooling to go into the die-cast machine- Assembly verifications, coring checks, plumbing checks

  • Disassembly and assembly of die-cast tool

  • Follow work instructions for safe and efficient assembly/disassembly of tooling

  • Removal and change of cavities and slide fronts

  • Ejection system maintenance

  • Repairs and replacements to die-cast tool cooling systems (plumbing)

  • prep for tool component shipments to vendors

  • Machining of work orders from prints/models– mill, grind, lathe, heat treat, laser engraving, fixturing.

  • This consists mainly of low-volume projects and restock work. Mostly high priority minimal lead time type activity.

  • Program and operate CNC equipment to include

  • 3 HAAS mills

  • 2 HAAS lathes

  • Knee and bed mills

  • Various grinding, sawing, and common shop-related machines

  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications.

  • Perform general maintenance on Toolroom equipment.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • State-certified Journeyworker Toolmaker or Tool & Diemaker. Documented equivalent experience W/O cert must exceed 8 years in the trade with most of it continuously

  • Skill and ability in common Toolmaker areas of specialty to include

  • Precision measurement and inspection

  • CNC and manual lathes drills and mills

  • CNC and Manual grinding

  • Materials and metallurgy (heat treat, weld, and braze)

  • Jig and fixture fabrication

  • Assist team in problem-solving as well as determine proper methods and or techniques used in Mid & End of run repairs and PMs.

  • Ability to train, instruct, guide, and supervise the work of apprentices during their development in the trade

  • Experience with Haas lathes and mills.

  • Familiarity with Power Mill, conversational programming G code.

  • Will train but looking for someone familiar with writing their own programs from prints and models.

  • We do not have dedicated machinists or programmers for our shop machining activities.

  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Tig weld experience desired but will train
