The Ground Systems Development (GSD) Mission Area (SBU) in the Space and Mission Systems (SMS) sector designs, builds and deploys innovative ground solutions. GSD is seeking a new business leader to lead new business activities and captures for multi-mission area, cross business, and/or highly competitive efforts. The position reports to the Director of GSD and is responsible for developing the GSS strategic plan and leading implementation of strategic actions. As a leader at the company, this position interacts with all internal organizations and customers, contributes to strategic planning, and represents GSD and BAE Systems, Inc. at aerospace industry events.

The Ground Systems & Services (GSS) Strategic Business Unit is responsible for driving business growth in the ground systems development, operations & sustainment, and technical services markets. This business unit focuses on designing, building and integrating ground systems in support of air and space-based assets, providing operational support for mission platforms and instruments and offering scientific and engineering expertise to our customers.

What You ll Do:

  • Work with other GSD and SMS team members, customers, and end users to find solutions to today's needs and help develop concepts for next generation platforms.

  • Lead a team of engineers and related staff focused on capturing Ground System Development programs and transitioning them into successful development programs.

  • Assess market potential for existing markets and develop investment plans to penetrate new or lateral markets. Direct innovative research and establish industrial partnerships necessary to effectively compete in Ground markets.

  • Propose IR&D in coordination with the Technology Director and coordinate technology developments with other mission areas as appropriate.

  • Work with our prime and government customers to translate capability needs into recommended Concepts of Operations to provide the maximum tactical advantage to our warfighters.

  • Assist in the development and communication of proposal strategy, including pursuit analysis, bidding strategies, technical presentations, win themes, key points, and pricing.

  • Coordinate all proposal activities, prepare various inputs, and oversee final proposal preparation and delivery. Oversee study efforts having the potential to evolve into new business capture opportunities.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS/BA in related field plus 10 years or more related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.

  • Technical experience with national space enterprise ground systems, space TCPED systems or demonstrated success transitioning TRL 5/6 technologies into production.

  • Solid project management skills and demonstrated ability to grow new business opportunities, including a track record of successfully managing the transition of new technologies.

  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills in relevant business environments.

  • Influencing, communication and team skills will be critical to successful execution of the duties of the position.

  • Experienced presentation skills with documented presentation experience to senior decision making and technical audiences.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Programmatic background within classified program environments for government or industry.

  • Experience in leading design teams and new business capture activities.

  • Demonstrated proposal leadership experience including excellent technical writing skills.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $144000 - $199000

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
