Primary Purpose of Position:
The Tax Senior prepares and reviews various state income and franchise tax filings; researches and analyzes a wide range of state and local tax issues; assists with tax planning opportunity identification and implementation; keeps up-to-date on current tax practices and technical issues; develops a working knowledge of the company’s business and tax systems; contributes to the successful completion of projects.
Responsible for the preparation and review of state and local income and franchise tax returns and supporting work papers with attention to various state and local tax issues such as apportionment, state modifications, nexus, unitary filings, and flow-through taxation.
Responsible for the preparation and review of estimated income tax payment/withholding calculations and related filings.
Assists with the quarterly and year-end income tax provision process, including preparation and review of state income tax provision calculations, support, and analysis with assistance from supervisor and manager.
Researches and analyzes a wide range of direct and indirect tax issues and assists in the documentation of conclusions and the related impacts on compliance and reporting.
Assists with various state and local income tax projects including research and writing related to tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, and various inquiries from the business.
Assists with various indirect tax projects including but not limited to compliance and reporting of sales and use, excise, and Canadian transaction taxes; tax implications of sales and purchase transactions; audit defense; planning; and voluntary disclosures.
Serves as a liaison between the corporate office, subsidiaries, divisions, and plants in state and local tax matters.
Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency and streamline work flow.
Effectively communicates state and local tax guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college level education in accounting, finance, or work-related experience
Job related experience for 3-5 year(s) minimum in state income and franchise tax
Certifications/Licenses/Other: CPA preferred
Preparation and review experience of state income and franchise tax returns
Experience with state tax planning, tax research, and tax analysis
Previous Big 4 or large CPA firm experience
Excellent research and writing skills
Excellent presentation and communication skills
5% of travel
