Project Overview:

The Rio Grande LNG Project is located at a site south of the Brownsville-Port Isabel Highway and north of the Brownsville Ship Channel in Cameron County near Brownsville, Texas. The Project scope includes the detailed engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, start-up and testing of a greenfield liquefaction and export terminal consisting of up to five liquefaction units and associated facilities, utilizing APCI C3MR technology.

Job Summary:

Assigned to the Construction organization as the Office Surveyor/Survey Cad Specialist is responsible for providing survey computations and drafting support as required to the construction survey team. The Office Surveyor/Survey Cad Specialist reports directly to the Project Survey Manager (PSM). The Office Surveyor/Survey Cad Specialist interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and provides direction and supervision to assigned field survey teams in support of the civil, structural, mechanical, and piping installations in the work area.

This position will start as a short-term assignment in the Houston, TX Office and will transition to the jobsite in Brownsville, TX for the EPC execution of the project.

Major Responsibilities:

The Office Surveyor / Survey Cad Specialist’ (OS) duties include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the PSM with the overall quality and integrity of the Office Survey surveying program.

  • Assist the PSM with the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.

  • Responsible for the administration of the Survey Work Request program.

  • Ensure that the execution of the survey office calculations activity supports the construction schedule.

  • Review and approve survey data from field crews and ensure survey documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.

  • Provide office technical support to the survey team including developing, processing, and maintaining survey data and preparation of deliverables utilizing survey industry best practices.

  • Support with the verification of the project’s Survey Control Networks.

  • Review Survey Control field work and perform accurate network least squares adjustments.

  • Identifying the location of underground services and maintaining a drawing with as-built underground installations to support excavation permitting process.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with 3D Survey CAD software, including the ability to perform and check digital computations for generation of survey layout data and drafting of as staked/as-built data; generate DTMs and compute volumes.

  • Provide Civil project completion data and documentation including "As-Built" records.

  • Support the supervision of the 3D Laser Scanning operations, including reality capture and processing of scan data.

  • Support the UAV (Drones) program with ground control points computations and/or other assistance as required.

  • Perform or oversee Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.

  • Providing direction and training to less experienced survey team members.

  • The Office Surveyor may also function as a party chief responsible for supervising a field survey crew, or as a member of a field crew.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Engineering/Technical degree and 6 years’ experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying, involving a mix of field and office duties with modern instruments and software, with at least 3 years’ supervisorial experience or 12 years’ experience (in lieu of a degree), with at least 5 years’ supervisorial experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering Survey experience with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping, etc. installation layout and verification

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program.

  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards. Must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework

  • Knowledge of construction survey principles

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to industrial surveying field & office activities

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe work ethic and work environment at all times

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors, and survey functional management

  • Self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment, on multiple work fronts, with excellent problem-solving ability

  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner

  • Demonstrated experience with Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels and GNSS survey systems

  • Demonstrated experience using Trimble survey equipment and Access field software

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations

  • Experience working on multiple work fronts

  • Work under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions

  • Advanced knowledge of data downloading.

  • Intermediate level use of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior Energy GBU experience

  • Prior LNG project experience

  • Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures

  • Familiarity with heavy equipment Machine Control technology

  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation software

  • Experience with Tekla software

  • Experience with UAV (Drones)

  • Experience with 3D Laser Scanning hardware and software a plus

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to Metrology field & office activities

  • General awareness of environmental laws

  • Awareness of government compliance standards

Additional Information:

Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
