The Opportunity

This position works out of our Burlington, MA location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting product development from concept through sustained manufacturing of FDA regulated products. In this role, extensive experience with product development, verification testing, and implementation of engineering principles while assuring compliance with cGMP, quality and safety standards.

What You’ll Work On

  • Design electro-mechanical sub-assemblies to meet broad design goals, establish requirements and specification

  • Use empirical, numerical and experimental analysis to analyze designs.

  • Own test method and model development

  • Identify and mitigate sub-assembly risks

  • Support invention disclosures, design reviews and physician visits

  • Work with internal departments and external vendors to obtain prototype parts and to understand their capabilities and limitations

  • Conducts evaluations, tests and analyses related to feasibility and function.

  • Performs troubleshooting and fault isolation activities on a variety of breadboards and hybrids.

  • Gain a detailed understanding of the developing clinical environment (i.e. current treatment methods, evolving clinical needs etc.).

  • Gain a detailed understanding of the quality and regulatory requirements of SJM, FDA and ISO regulations, manage project within these requirements

  • Gain a detailed understanding of overall schedule, manage time and task within schedule

  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to work within many functions and support the Electrical, Mechanical and Systems development teams.

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in mechanical, electrical, robotics or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable FDA regulations and company operating procedures, processes, policies and tasks.

  • Demonstrated personal computer skills and ability to perform basic word processing/spreadsheet tasks to perform documentation, presentation, and analysis activities.

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a GMP, FDA, ISO and USDA regulated environment

  • Experience with CAD/ECAD design (Solidworks, Creo, PSpice, LTSpice, or equivalent)

  • Experience with programming (Python preferred)

The base pay for this position is $60,000.00 – $120,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
