Project Overview:

Career opportunity available for a self-motivated, high performing Fab Layout Area Design Lead, with a proven track record in the design and construction of semiconductor manufacturing facilities, also known as Fabs. The Fab Layout Area Design Lead is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and will join the engineering discipline of Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) within Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) GBU. The candidate has expert level knowledge and understanding of Fab campus layouts, conceptual layouts, and space management coordination for a large industrial semiconductor project. The SME role provides the highest level of expertise, technical leadership and expertise in the design, development, and optimization of campus layouts, equipment and piping for semiconductor facilities. The role is critical to the business growth and successful delivery of M&T projects. This role has responsibility to identify, develop and incorporate industry leading practices, processes and tools and to provide training and development of our engineering and construction professionals. The role supports high quality delivery for PD&P discipline on M&T Projects.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-MJ1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews design work within a medium-size PD&P design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit​

  • Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing​

  • Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of PD&P engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters​

  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management​. Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators)​

  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of PD&P design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly​

  • Develops Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices​

  • Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work​

  • Reviews and approves key PD&P engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries​

  • Mentors PD&P designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development​

  • Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive knowledge and experience related to Plant Design & Piping conceptual layouts (space coordination) of equipment and piping complex routings for a large industrial semiconductor manufacturing facilities (fabs).

  • Expert level knowledge and understanding of design criteria, codes and standards, and industry standard specifications, specifically for large industrial semiconductor facilities (fabs).

  • Expert level knowledge ability to conceptualize fab building campus layouts including sub-fab, support areas, support buildings (Boiler, Chiller, Process Utilities including Water Treatment, EGen and balance of plant (BOP) facilities.

  • Expert level knowledge of interfaces with equipment and for specialty piping arrangements of an industrial semiconductor manufacturing facilities (fabs).

  • Prefer expert level knowledge and understanding of industrial fab building specialty piping i.e., Ultrahigh Purity Water (UPW), high purity bulk and specialty gas systems, double contained bulk chemical distribution systems, and non-metallic piping systems.

  • Prefer expert level knowledge and understanding of pipe support systems for specialty piping of fab building.
