The Assembly and Industrial Coatings Value Stream Manager is responsible for overseeing the Final Assembly, Industrial Coatings, and Test operations. Their role involves implementing Lean systems and strategies to ensure a safe work environment, maximize profitable growth, drive quality improvements, provide premier customer service, develop a technically qualified workforce, and reduce operating costs, inventories, and lead times through continuous improvement. They also oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly expectations.

Dimensions:

Annual Budget

Employee Expense: up to $4 million

Departmental Expense: up to $300,000

Value Stream (WIP) Inventory: Up to $15 million

Capital Expense: $250,000

Personnel Supervised: Up to 5 Salary Exempt Indirect and 100 or more Hourly Direct

Nature and Scope:

This role will oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the value stream, with overall responsibilities for production and production-related activities to ensure approved products are manufactured in support of Solar’s business plan and within quality standards and cost objectives.

The position provides leadership and functional guidance for the production schedule, work-in-progress (WIP) inventory, personnel safety, employee development, process improvements, cost management, and inter/intra-organization effectiveness. The incumbent interfaces with all levels of management and other functional disciplines.

The incumbent must have a strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and Lean Manufacturing techniques. Technical knowledge of the product, lean supply chain management, engineering processes, and 6 Sigma are essential for success. Resource management, the ability to lead successful teams, and continuous process improvement are essential requirements for this position. This position also requires a candidate to have a working knowledge of capacity, production, and material planning processes.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a diverse workforce are highly desirable.

Principal Accountabilities:

Safety:

  • Promote a safe environment through education, awareness, and taking responsibility.

  • Meet the facility's safety targets set by the company.

  • Carry out accident investigations and take appropriate actions.

Schedule Execution:

  • Achieve or surpass a 95% on-time delivery to meet customer needs.

  • Develop a plan to reach production capacity for the annual sales forecast and long-term forecast.

  • Lead day-to-day activities within the value stream to ensure that current commitments are met.

Employee Development:

  • Supervise a staff of different classifications.

  • Identify training needs for each job classification in the reporting structure.

  • Conduct performance appraisals, and plan for merit and promotions.

  • Assist in creating individual development plans for direct reports.

  • Develop team member roles, values, and goals.

Process Improvements:

  • Develop current and future state value stream maps for the value stream.

  • Meet manufacturing cycle time (MCT) goals.

  • Create and maintain a multi-generational (MGPP) project plan to achieve the future state(s) map.

  • Continuously improve the ratio of value to non-value-added activities.

  • Lead various continuous improvement projects using 6 Sigma and Lean techniques.

  • Develop processes and improve facilities to reduce variation, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and increase capacity.

Cost Management / Reduction:

  • Responsible for managing overtime, headcount, operational budget, employee expenses, OCE, and capital projects.

  • Manage WIP inventory.

Inter / Intra Organization Effectiveness:

  • Actively participate in the Planning and Operations teams.

  • Maintain Value Stream metrics for Cycle time, Costs, and Quality.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering, Business, or related field

At least 5+ additional years of leadership experience in Enginering, Production, Materials, or Supply Chain

Proven track record of effective leadership, team building, and continuous improvement.

Familiarity with materials management disciplines including production and inventory control.

Ability to manage changing/conflicting priorities and resolve them appropriately.
