Job Description:

Role Summary:

The role of Site Reliability Engineer is to participate in the design, development and implementation of systems engineering activities, to include OS technical support, systems programming and data center capabilities. Also responsible for components of complex engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities. Assists in establishment of input/output processes and working parameters for hardware compatibility and coordination of subsystems design and integration of total system. Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource; provides tech knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor. Will not have direct reports but will influence and direct activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations. Provides input on staffing, budget and personnel. Typically 5 or more years of systems engineering experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities: Application & Platform Support Engineer role is one that requires a firm understanding of Microsoft Windows Server & Desktop, Linux Java application servers and databases, and related web-based technologies. Responsibilities extend to all components of an application and application environment including front, back, and middle tiers where applicable. They should also have ability to learn and adapt their knowledge to assist in support of other RPGWIM platforms when needed. Individual should be a self-starter with a keen interest in increasing their technical IQ and being able to step up to a senior level role in the future. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in RPGWIM triage calls and handling in-depth research and analysis of Production and Pre-Production incidents, assisting with triage and analysis.

  • Work with vendors to review new tools and work to implement them into Production

  • Provide support for RPGWIM Enterprise technology platforms thru engaging in incidents, on-watch calls, support of production releases, escalations from Operations and/or business partners.

  • Debugging of application exceptions and error conditions

  • Proactive identification of issues

  • Ability to handle on call rotation in 24/7 environment

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience with Microsoft Server & Desktop products as well as Unix/Linux Operating systems

  • Proven experience with scripting

  • Experience with performance and diagnostic tools to determine Server or Desktop performance, application response time, and network issues

  • Experience with two or more of the following Networking and infrastructure components such as DNS, load balancers, Firewall, Proxy. Experience supporting Net/IIS, Java, Tomcat, Apache, SQL, and Oracle

Desired Skills:

  • Very clear communication skills both written and oral

  • Self-starter with excellent crisis management skills

  • Able to drive/recommend solutions to extended technology teams
