Job Summary:

The CAT Senior Manager Digital Service Level is responsible for the overall management of strategic relationship with digital vendors. This position ensures alignment of the vendor with CAT Digital’s business goals and objectives through supporting vendor evaluation and selection, overseeing vendor relationships, performance and managing vendor risks. This position will work closely with Indirect Procurement and business teams to meet business vendor engagement requirements.

JOB RELATED STATISTICS:

  • Accountable for vendor management and procurement activities for CAT Digital (>$75M & <=$150M in annual spend)

  • Scope of work is global or across all key functions of CAT digital

  • Primary Internal Interface: Managers/Directors/Vice Presidents

  • Personnel: 3-5 Cat employees, 5-15 Agency vendor employees

What You Will Do:

The Senior Manager is responsible to lead vendor management key activities for specific Cat Digital departments and direct the work of other team members. Some of the key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Translate corporate strategy and business needs into Vendor Management Office (VMO) strategy.

  • Establish and drive policies, standards, processes and templates for working with vendors.

  • Develop and refine supplier segmentation frameworks for classifying and prioritizing suppliers.

  • Coordinate with Indirect Procurement, business units and other key functions on sourcing methods, vendor evaluation & selection, negotiating and contract development / management.

  • Oversee processing of purchase requisition, purchase orders, invoices and receipts.

  • Coordinate and conduct senior-level meetings between vendors and business owners to ensure strategic alignment.

  • Identify vendor development and co-investment opportunities; drive continuous improvement.

  • Monitor / analyze performance metrics; document and report issues and business opportunities.

  • Hire, direct, motivate, and develop staff; address staffing, engagement and training needs to ensure high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Serve as a point of escalation to resolve issues and disputes.

This position requires a minimal amount of travel; up to 20% of work time.

Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

What You Will Have:

  • Negotiating: Extensive knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner. Experience leading complex, high-impact or volatile negotiations involving high business risks.

  • Relationship Management: Extensive knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers. Experience overseeing key client reviews to assure service and relationship satisfaction.

  • Product and Vendor Evaluation: Extensive knowledge of product and vendor evaluation; ability to implement processes for the evaluation and selection of products, tools, services and infrastructure components ensuring they are in line with an organization's business needs and architectural principles. Utilize industry-wide best practices for product and vendor evaluation along with standards, policies and guidelines for product and vendor evaluation.

  • Software Licensing: Extensive knowledge of the legal practices, considerations and management of software licensing; ability to support and update software licensing processes. Provide insight into the licensing of digital products and technology-based services.

  • Contracts Review: Extensive knowledge of the contractual and legal matters related to expenditures (consulting services, maintenance, agreements, acquisitions, outsourcing, etc.); ability to evaluate, interpret and improve the language used in contractual agreements. Consult on evaluating and managing contracts in the industry and marketplace.

Considerations for Top Candidates:

  • Typically, a Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in an area of study relevant to this position and more than 8+ years of experience.

  • Experience in leading teams in large enterprise services delivery organizations.

  • Deep understand of Source-to-Pay life cycle, supplier relationship management and contracting best practices.

  • Knowledge of global sourcing; ability to procure digital products and services in a global arena.

  • Knowledge of the processes and procedures by which a contract change is identified, evaluated, approved, monitored and documented; Ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively.

  • Prior experience building and/or deploying technology solutions, preference in MS and AWS environments.

  • Prior experience in supplier selection process, defining statements of work, working with 3rd party software and/or services in one or more areas of digital required.

  • Project management (Six Sigma Black Belt/Green Belt) experience and/or purchasing experience strongly desired with Caucus Certification of Certified Technology Procurement Executive (CTPE) or obtain within 6 months of hiring.

  • Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.

Additional Information:

The preferred location is Peoria, IL, but also has the option to be based out of Chicago, IL with a hybrid office environment.
