The Opportunity

Our location in Abbott Park, IL or Willis Tower currently has an opportunity for a Sr. Counsel, Litigation. Abbott is seeking an experienced litigator to be responsible for an exciting variety of complex commercial litigation matters both inside and outside of the U.S. including, among others, contract, advertising, consumer class action, product liability, and alternative dispute resolution matters, as well as government investigations and proceedings involving the False Claims Act and/or Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

What You’ll Work On

Technical Skills:

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated experience in all aspects of managing complex litigation, including trial, contested hearings, pleadings, motion practice, discovery, depositions, mediation, and developing litigation strategy. Experience in antitrust, securities, regulatory agency, and/or government investigations and proceedings is preferred, but not required.

Core job responsibilities include:

  • Developing and deploying successful strategies for managing complex litigation and enterprise risk, including creative approaches to dispute resolution.

  • With minimal supervision, selecting, supervising, and directing outside counsel, including developing and maintaining case budgets; and

  • Advising legal and business leaders on legal issues, litigation strategy, and dispute resolution, and collaborating with leaders to drive desired outcomes most beneficial to the business.

  • Collaboration: Firm understanding of available legal, functional, and business resources and ability to integrate information from a number of sources to achieve business results, including breaking down boundaries to create alignment as necessary, in a complex, global, matrixed environment.

  • Anticipation: Holistic, big picture thinker, who anticipates changes in law, enforcement, and/or business objectives, and adapts approach as necessary to manage risks effectively and mitigate issues before they arise.

  • Effective Presentation Skills: Strong ability to use presentation tools and techniques to present information with clarity of thought and orderliness to groups with the appropriate degree of formality and impact.

  • Influencing Skills: Build strong relationships with business partners to tactfully influence and gain their support to drive desired outcomes.

Qualifications

Training/Experience Required

  • Possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, demonstrate a strong academic background, and be admitted to a US state bar in good standing.

  • Must have a minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing complex commercial litigation attorney in a sophisticated law firm setting. Preferred candidates will have 8 or more years of experience. Experience with antitrust, securities, regulatory and/or government investigations and proceedings is a significant plus.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects in fast-paced environment and exercise sound commercial and legal judgment.

  • In addition to top-notch legal skills and a strong ethical center, excellent interpersonal, strategic thinking, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Multilingual skills are desirable, but not required.

The base pay for this position is $143,300.00 – $286,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
