About the role

The Regulatory Compliance Engineer – Biogas will support the Biogas Regulatory Compliance team with key responsibilities focusing on low carbon fuel program compliance and technical support across the team. This position will also assist in maintaining recordkeeping requirements for facilities across our portfolio participating in sustainability compliance programs. This position will develop and understanding of technical laws and regulations related to the sustainability compliance programs, prepare compliance reports and technical support documents, perform compliance assessments, work with a wide variety of functional departments (including Operations, Project Development, and third-party auditors) and manage multiple assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for compiling, analyzing, and presenting data, documents, and other information related to compliance programs across a portfolio of operational RNG facilities. This includes but is not limited to, operational data, energy usage statements, mass & energy balances, process drawings, and information for facility instrumentation.

  • Responsible for learning and implementing various LCA or Carbon Intensity Assessment frameworks as it relates to our compliance program activity. This includes, but is not limited to, CA GREET, Argonne National Labs GREET, OpenLCA, GHGenius, and the ISCC framework.

  • Assist with compiling and submitting reports for regulatory compliance reporting activities. Assist with communications with regulatory agencies and third-party entities as required.

  • Perform LCA and Carbon Intensity Assessments for annual compliance reporting, voluntary program reporting, and to support business development efforts.

  • Support and witness compliance audits for regulatory and voluntary fuel programs.

  • Gain and maintain knowledge regarding state, federal, and international renewable and low carbon fuels programs.

  • Assists compliance team with compliance program development, implementation and management, training program materials and management

  • May assist with facility registration activities related to RNG and eRIN production and other compliance functions for the federal RFS.

  • May perform reviews of processes, procedures, and regulatory reports to assure alignment with regulatory guidance. Assist with communicating impacts of regulatory changes and educating other Archaea internal teams of such changes.

  • This is not a complete list of duties; this position may be required to perform additional duties deemed vital by management.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of work experience required; with previous direct experience in regulatory compliance preferred.

  • Proficiency in quantitative and statistical analysis.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.

Desired Experience

  • Prior experience with LCA or Carbon Intensity modeling using the CA GREET or ANL GREET model, or related experience under a state low carbon fuel program such as the California LCFS is preferred.

  • Exposure to energy compliance and regulations in the energy industry is preferred.

  • Exposure to audit procedures is desired but not required.

  • Technical writing and the ability to communicate internally and externally.

  • Team orientation and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fluid working environment.

  • Critical thinking skills, project, and time management skills.

  • Dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to contribute to the team.

  • Shows good judgment, decision making and problem-solving skills.

How much do we pay (Base)? ($78,000 - $144,000) *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting. 

This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees). You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
