ETHICON, part of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting new college graduates for the Electrical Engineer track in Cincinnati, OH. This position offers development activities covering a variety of skills such as analog/digital circuit design, embedded systems design and programming, therapeutic energy delivery and algorithms, and electronics manufacturing.

In particular, the ETHICON business in Cincinnati, OH offers a broad range of products, platforms, and technologies—including surgical staplers, advanced energy devices, robotic surgery, capital equipment, advanced visualization systems, clip appliers, and trocars. Our innovations are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures in specialties including colorectal, thoracic, women’s health, cancer, and obesity treatment. Our Cincinnati site was founded 30 years ago and has developed innovative devices that have driven ground-breaking shifts in modern surgery!

As an Assistant/Associate Electrical Engineer you will:

  • Design embedded electronics for devices with smart, adaptive, and tissue sensing algorithms to improve patient outcomes.

  • Design digital and analog circuitry and Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) for medical devices and capital equipment

  • Write embedded software for medical devices and prototypes

  • Develop and verify FPGA RTL for medical devices

  • Develop test methods, perform engineering studies, and increase your engineering documentation skills.

  • Document failure mode effect analysis (FMEA), hardware design descriptions, and derating analyses for electrical assemblies.

  • Contribute to designing and implementing Ethicon’s vision across the Robotics & Digital Solutions, Energy, and Endomechanical platforms.

  • Have a strong support network of seasoned team engineers and mentors, guiding your technical and career development.

  • Leverage cutting edge technologies, academic learnings, and fundamental engineering principles to contribute to design solutions in a dynamic, team focused environment.

  • Collaborate with external partners and across Johnson & Johnson to identify and implement project solutions.

  • Continue your technical growth and development through a wide variety of available on-site training courses such as anatomy, modeling and simulation, six sigma, statistics, design for manufacturability and assembly, and component analysis.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a new college graduate, graduating no more than 12 months prior to their 2024 start date with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.

  • Possess previous co-op, internship, or work experience with embedded digital and/or analog electrical design work.

  • Familiarity with one or more of the following is preferred: embedded systems, motor controls, analog filters, communication protocols, sensors, power supply design, amplifier design, FPGA programming and verification.

  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment: multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator, spectrum analyzer, digital logic analyzer.

  • Familiarity with writing software for microcontrollers is preferred.

  • Previous experience with circuit design using Cadence, Altium, or similar ECAD tool is preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership/participation in campus programs and/or community service activities.

  • Ability to work in a regulated environment, which includes learning and following regulations from the FDA and other regulators.

  • GPA of 3.0 or above

  • Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship now or in the future . (ie. H1B Visa status
