Are you ready to drive excellence at Caterpillar Inc. as a Category Buyer ? You’ll source and manage critical components like fluid conveyance parts (tubes, hoses, adaptors), directly supporting five major North America assembly facilities. You’ll lead supplier selection, ensure production readiness, and maintain high standards in cost, quality, and supplier relationships.

Collaborate with innovative design engineers on new part designs, negotiate competitive pricing, and spearhead supplier improvement projects to enhance performance and capabilities. What You Will Do:

  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) supplier selection.

  • Ensure supplier readiness (quote, PO, ship date) for the various NPI gateways & builds.

  • Align with quality engineer on quality requirements and improvements for supplier quality performance.

  • Run supplier projects to improve current production ship, quality performance and capacity.

  • Work thru escalated availability issues escalated from the 5 assembly facilities.

  • Negotiate part pricing for NPI & current product changes.

  • Negotiate supplier currency/commodity adjustments & any escalated concerns from site facilities.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Degree/experience: bachelor’s degree technical/engineering, business field or similar related studies.

  • Proven experience in supplier management , including vendor selection, contract negotiation, performance monitoring and issues resolution, to maintain strong and reliable supplier relationships.

  • Proficiency in data-driven decision making , with a demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data to inform strategic procurement decisions. This position will have total cost of ownership related to part, inventory holding & transportation costs.

  • Proven ability to apply successful negotiation concepts and techniques, and effectively negotiate with internal teams, external vendors, and client in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Top Candidates Will Have :

  • Experience in purchasing, supplier development, or working with suppliers who manufacture fluid conveyance parts.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings strongly preferred.

  • Professional certification in Purchasing and/or supply chain management.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective collaboration with internal teams, stakeholders, and suppliers.

Additional Info :

  • The ideal work location is at the Clayton NC or Sanford NC facilities to be in close proximity to the machine design centers in both locations. The person will need to be available at either location potentially each week depending on NPI & current product meetings. The person may also be located at the Athens GA facility with quarterly travel to the other facilities.

  • Domestic relocation will not be provided.

  • 10-15% domestic and international travel is expected.
