The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

Job Summary

The Transportation Analyst analyzes and develops transportation plans to control the movement of commodities throughout a manufacturing or distribution network to ensure the smooth running of operations at optimal transportation cost levels.

Additional Information

  • This position will split its time between the Sanford, NC (50%) and Clayton, NC (50%) facilities

  • This role does not provide relocation

What You Will Do

  • Managing the site transportation operations (Inbound) needs, identifying and leading transportation network projects and improvement initiatives, conducting freight cost analyses and transportation budgeting,), managing client-site accounts, conducting ongoing lane/network evaluations and providing operational requirements for procurement bidding activities

  • Analyzing transportation plans and identifying opportunities for improvements to meet client needs.

  • Generating and analyzing reports of transportation costs, carrier performance and lead times.

  • Assisting in the development of process flows to track lead time by activity and providing solutions to reduce lead times.

What You Have

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

  • Transportation - PHA: Knowledge of and experience with the means of transporting materials and goods to and from suppliers, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities and customers the manufacturing facility.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Transportation, or related field.

  • Experience using transportation management systems (i.e., Blue Yonder).

  • First-hand experience and knowledge of Caterpillar transportation networks

  • Project management experience

  • Supply Chain Management: Knowledge of functions, principles and techniques used in supply chain management; ability to develop and implement strategies, practices and tools for controlling the whole processes.
