Pfizer Vice President, Business Assessment in Collegeville, Pennsylvania
ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Commercial Strategy & Innovation, the Business Assessment Lead is responsible for 1) partnering with the commercial development team to develop commercial forecasts for Pfizer pipeline assets and 2) partnering with WW Business Development (WWBD) to effectively champion external opportunities, and 3) manage the group that conducts commercial assessments.
For commercial forecasts of pipeline assets, he/she will play a significant role in ensuring consistency and rigor of commercial forecasts across the pipeline (ie, oncology, vaccines, anti-infectives, internal medicine and Immunology & inflammation). This will require effective engagement across the commercial development, global commercial, global access, global medical, international and key country organizations. The lead is also accountable to ensure common standards are used in developing commercial forecasts. A key element is also understanding implications on PFE as an enterprise as well and comparison vs external stakeholders (eg, analysts).
For the commercial assessment of external opportunities, this information developed by this team will be used to structure appropriate deal terms. This group will evaluate both product licensing and bolt-on M&A opportunities, and actively participate in discussions that determine the potential value of the partnership.
As the most senior member of the group, he/she will also be personally accountable for the collective set of assessments (internal and external commercial forecasts) as well as leading the team. They will also provide strategic input into trade off decisions that may be required between Category investment options or between BD investments and pipeline investments. He/she will present their analysis and recommendations to executive governance.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Commercial assessment of Pfizer pipeline assets across all therapeutic areas (Oncology, Vaccines, Anti-infectives, Internal Medicine and Immunology & Inflammation)
Close collaboration with commercial development leads as well as global commercial, global access, global medical, international and key geographies in the development of pipeline forecasts
Development of the commercial assessment of global and regional BD opportunities
Close collaboration with Business Development leads to develop the BU BD strategy, evaluate opportunities identified through search, development of commercial assessment, and overall recommendation for opportunity to governance bodies (BU level and Pfizer level)
Ensure that commercial assessment of opportunities across the portfolio is rigorous, and based on common modeling techniques and assumptions
Develop analytically supported recommendations to facilitate capital allocation decisions in collaboration with other key functions (eg, portfolio and decision analysis)
Manage a group of 6 direct reports and an organization of 30 colleagues
Presentation of commercial assessment to senior management governance bodies
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
BS/BA degree with 15+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, such as in biopharma marketing, life sciences consulting, financial services or other analytical profession, and deep experience in revenue forecast and modeling
Understands trends in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, aware of competitor strategies, knowledge of healthcare dynamics in the US and other major global markets, understands the drug development process, and is attuned to market trends and strategies that could impact
Experienced people manager who can lead a high-performance team and culture, ensure focus on key business priorities, and promote continuous learning, professional development, and wellness within their teams
Ability to work with complex information and distill into an analytic framework that helps facilitate decision making. Proficiency with revenue forecasting, financial valuation, cash flow modeling, economic value measure and other types of analytical modeling (e.g. Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, multi-attribute analysis, etc.)
Ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization including executive commercial and research leaders, and engage them at appropriate times in the commercial assessment process
Extensive experience in business development process, specifically in opportunity identification, commercial assessment, and deal structure, and types of business development deals including acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships, joint ventures, and co-development opportunities
Strong presentation skills and ability to provide objective recommendations for investment at a BU level, factoring in strategies at a Category level and overall BU strategy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
MBA or other advanced degree
Prior experience in Finance
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $239,300.00 to $398,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 30.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
