This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary:

The Department Superintendent is responsible for safety, regulatory compliance, operations, cost management, and colleague development of one of the departments within the Columbus Corn Processing Complex. The Columbus Corn Processing Complex is one of the largest agricultural processing facilities in the world producing: Corn Starch, Corn Gluten Meal, Corn Gluten Feed, Corn Germ, Distiller’s Dried Grains w/ Solubles, Distillers Corn Oil, Ethanol, and High Fructose Corn Syrup. This position will lead a team of between 15 and 50 full time colleagues at the Columbus facility and will report to the Plant Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leads the Operation of a Department to maintain personnel and process safety:

  • Maintains an environment in which personal safety is the top priority.

  • Ensures the team works safely and the department maintains compliance of all health and safety regulations.

  • Aligns department goals with complex goals and communicates the direction and priorities to the department, leveraging a structured management system.

  • Coordinates operation of the production area to ensure adherence to established product, environmental, safety and housekeeping quality guidelines set by the company.

  • Consistently models ADM Core Values and Leadership Behaviors. Demonstrates ADM Core Values in decision making and actions.

  • Collaborates with work groups across the organization to develop a strategic vision for the department that is put into action through the department deployment plan.

  • Supports Quality and the Food Safety Management Systems, and may be a member of the Food Safety Team

  • Acts as a key stakeholder to the plant leadership team.

  • Models the way of the Performance Excellence journey:

  • Leads and coaches the team to leverage continuous improvement tools to achieve department and plant KPIs.

  • Works closely with supervisors, subject matter experts, department engineers, and operations colleagues to deliver sound execution of the department deployment plan.

  • Work in collaboration with Centers of Excellence to improve technology and reliability of the operations.

  • Conducts Daily/Monthly/Quarterly Review and Response to adjust and adapt deployment plans for consistent execution.

  • Leads Standard Work discussions with department team.

  • Is an Effective Communicator:

  • Timely communication and escalations with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies and procedures.

  • Performs colleague performance reviews and meets with colleagues on quarterly basis to review goals and individual development plans.

  • Collaborates with HR to manage performance of department colleagues.

  • Takes on additional roles and responsibilities to continually develop self and/or other team members.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work related experience.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years’ experience in a leadership role.

  • Demonstrated strong commitment and leadership in safety systems.

  • A strong understanding of corn processing – both wet and dry milling.

  • Experience with Food Safety, GMP, and HACCP.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to plan priorities effectively, including capital planning, production scheduling, maintenance planning and 5 year planning.

  • Proficient in mentoring, training, and development of colleagues with both operational and technical backgrounds.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for coordination, training, and reporting.

  • Able to utilize independent judgement to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and strive for continuous improvement and high expectations for direct reports.

  • Ability to achieve and track excellence using performance driven metrics leveraging Performance Excellence or similar continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, TPM.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Knowledge of CMMS and enterprise management systems.
