Financial Planning and Strategy Leader– Global Science and Technology

Location: Flexible to Decatur, IL, Chicago, IL or Erlanger, KY

This is an exempt position.

Position Summary:

The Financial Planning and Strategy leader for global Science and Technology (S&T) will have primary responsibility for performance management, planning and support of S&T in meeting project investments and performance objectives. This position works closely with the Chief Science Officer (CSO) of ADM (Executive Committee member) and his management team as well as closely and in partnership with the Corporate FP&A and Strategy teams to ensure S&T strategic and financial plans are aligned with key business strategies, across all business units and technical Centers of Excellence (COE). This position will contribute to and support development of global S&T strategic objectives and financial plans by producing high quality analysis and insights into resources, investments and metrics. The position will also assist in the development of internal processes to create standard reports and support the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for decision making. Position will report to the Chief Science Officer and functionally to the Corporate Controller for ADM.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities span the following:

  • Be an influential and valuable partner to the CSO and his leaders within the global S&T organization to support strategic and financial planning activities, as well as performance metrics.

  • Act as the key point of contact to the Corporate Strategy and FP&A teams.

  • Work with S&T leadership, prepare and deliver long range & annual financial plans. Partnering with leaders and finance organization to support key initiatives and driving actions that improves business unit performance.

  • Play an integral role in the prioritization of capital and resource investments to ensure alignment with S&T plans and priorities.

  • Define, track and measure S&T performance metrics and advise S&T management on actions necessary to align to financial objectives.

  • Work closely with S&T portfolio management teams, BU or COE finance teams to ensure S&T investments and returns are aligned with business unit strategic and financial objectives.

  • Support CSO & leaders within S&T in the preparation of materials on priorities, investments, projects, metrics to various stakeholders, including the Executive Committee (EC) and the Board.

  • Support leaders in the preliminary assessments of new technology opportunities, financial evaluations of projects or prepare other ad hoc reports, as needed.

  • Identify and drive process improvements, such as creation of tools to support reporting and build alignment across global teams in planning and performance metrics management.

  • Directly manage one colleague; mentor and train staff, as needed as well as provide insights and direction were appropriate regarding S&T financial objectives

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science and/or business required. MBA and/or further finance qualifications preferred

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a similar finance or strategic planning related position including managerial level responsibilities. Preferably in research and development or manufacturing setting; must be comfortable with scientific, technical content. Preferably prior experience working with executive leadership or in strategic planning roles.

  • Ability to prioritize, work in a fast-paced environment with multiple, changing and competing priorities.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, adept in financial planning concepts.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as ability to work with various levels of office and scientific staff; good communication and presentation with an ability to articulate concepts clearly and succinctly.

  • Well-organized, detail, results and continuous improvement oriented; ability to drive initiatives and lead changes, as well as personal drive and initiative.

  • Positive, ‘can do’ hands on attitude with good influencing and stakeholder management skills; ability to travel as necessary and work under tight set deadlines. Functional experience:

  • Prior experience within ADM or in an adjacent industry is desired.

  • As stated, minimum of 7-10 years of experience in finance or strategic planning including managerial level responsibilities.

  • Strong analytical and data analysis skills; PowerBI or related analytical tools is an asset.

  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders and priorities under deadlines.
